<<<<<<<Rockist they may be, but these are two guys who have never pretended to be techno boffins. They're two guys who love beats and breaks and samples just as much as they love acid house and big fuck-off guitars. They are products of their environment, but don't necessarily wear their influences on their sleeves either. They may have created the formula, but it works! So what! They have spawned a clique of producers who have essentially copied their formula and done the exact same thing (Crystal Method, Bassbin Twins, DJ Who, DJ Icee/Icey, to name a few) Unfortunately, we live in a country that has a love affair with guitars. It is because dance music (i.e.: disco) was dismissed as a black and gay movement or as it progressed, a cheesy straight white guy thing, that America didn't want anything to do with it. So if it takes someone like the Chemical Brothers or Josh Wink to lead someone to the music, great - because hopefully they'll realize that there is more to this music, there's people like Derrick May, Oliver Leib, Jeff Mills, LTJ Bukem, Pete Namlook, Stefan Robbers, Dan Curtin, Ken Ishii, and this list can go on and on. If it takes them to be a catalyst, it's great for all of us who like more underground sounds and are trying to educate people. And one more thing, you all probably weren't saying shit like this two years ago when "Chemical Beats" dropped. Peace, Peter Wohelski Astralwerks
