Hi it's Nick,
Thanks for the info on the new Autechre single,
I bought it and it is truely magnificent.
REVIEWS:
TWISTED SYSTEMS VOLS 3&4
A few weeks ago I bought some 12"'s called Twisted systems
vols 3&4. All the tracks are by the same people Wathchman,
In-Q-Bus and Leper colony. Volume 3 has an amazing A side
by watchman, which has cool steady beats, and amazing
effects. The B-sides weren't as good in my opinion. Volume
4 is apsolutely perfect, some tracks ambient enough with a
steady percussion, other tracks faster and floor filling to
say the least. Vol 3 has just the three tracks while vol 4
features 4 tracks of sparkling brilliance.
NuW IDOL -ZIM (EAR/Plink Plonk)
This is a two tracker featuring the tracks Zim and Zim(Blue
RMX). The A track is a little more ambient than the B, but
with a nice 4-4 Beat, and subtle synthy overlays which
breezes the track along. The Blue remix has a large
percussive section hinting on tribal infact, with a very
reverby feel to it. It feels very dark, with a few
lightening like effects. All in all it was a good buy.
Discogabber vol 1 (Shockwave)
Not in the least way intelligent, or user friendly, but a
bit of a laugh. Listen to 'Saturday night' samples at high
speeds sounding like a chicken while the beats come in at
200 bpm+. There are four different artists with four
different tracks all of which are the most cheesy Gabba i've
ever heard. If you want a laugh at high BPM's this is for
you.
Technology-Photon e.p. (Eurobeat 2000)
Five tracks from technology. 303's a plenty. Acidic abit
cheesy in parts, but generally catchy, not too much to take
in and fairly average really. There are few surprises so
you want be thrilled or dissapointed.
Blue 101-Angry man/noplex (Out of Romford)
Another cut of P.Smailes at the controls. Blue 101 have now
released an album also on out of romford and i suspect it is
in the same line as the 12". Angry man is a nice
meaty-beaty tune with breezy overlays and a few samples here
and there. Noplex is one of the best things i've heard in
ages. Breezy, tuneful, ambient yet techno, dancable yet
listenable, generally very good. This weighs in at only
6mins59 but it will seem that when it ends it's only just
started.
Can anyone help me with information on the following
subjects:
Navarre who released Modus Vivendi, any other releases, any
other pseudonames.
The restoraz album that seemed never to be released.
Rainforest records?
Cheers Nick.
