Whatever gave you that idea?
I guess I wasn't as clear as I thought. I was contrasting the upbeat, positive, communal, peace & love (i.e. neo-hippie) attitudes that typified the early rave scene with the current trend towards "dark", "isolationist", scary vibe. From what little I've heard, the early detroit stuff was of more varied character, but the shift in popular IDM over the last few years is quite noticeable. The connection between music and "neo-hippie" ideals is that one seems to have supplanted the other. When I referred to fans of this stuff as grumpy, I was being somewhat facetious. I like a bit of spooky music every now and then as well, although in general I'm most impressed by music with a balance of light and dark.
