Ask aran@mit.edu, as he has strong opinions in this area. I used to have a cheapo Radio Shack mixer that did the trick for me; I even used it for a while to mix synths. RS has a newer one out that has 4 inputs, cue through cans, and is built like a tank for less than $150. Beyond that bottom of the line, you have to jump up to about $400-$500 to get anything decent.
