Now listen here, Mr. Anon Y. Mouse Never-Signs-Their-Postings College Student: This list is amazingly civil and, for the most part, ad hominem-free (well, other than when Jason attacked Terre Thaemlitz ... (-: ) These last few posts of yours have been filled with ad hominem attacks on both myself and Mr. Implode, among others. They are totally inappropriate for the list and have done nothing other than to expose your own cluelessness and to spiral off a discussion about "Industrial vs. Techno", which is *not* IDM and which is far better taken to some other place. Please stop. Webster's defines "ignorance" as "The condition of being ignorant", which is "1. Without education or knowledge. 2. Exhibiting lack of education or knowledge: an ignorant mistake. 3. Unaware or uninformed" If I choose to invent a phrase such as "Former Industrialists With A Clue", there's good reason. Given that a fair number of people who formerly haunted Industrial-oriented cyberspace (rec.music.industrial, the nm-list mailing list, and even music-flamers back before that) are now regular habitues of this list, it's safe to say that there are quite a few others here that fit this appelation as well. (I got a chuckle out of Morgan Geist's comment "I also admire people who carve their own non-Roland path ... I was glad to see Reload's gear list last year w/ the HR16 etc."; I remember an e-mail I got from Jon Drukman a long long time ago, when he said that he didn't want to hear my wife's 2nd album if it used an HR16 like her 1st one ... (-: Oh, BTW, that was an *Industrial* album ... ) As for "Have you ever heard Throbbing Gristle, The Hafler Trio, Zoviet France, Clock DVA/TAG The Anti Group, etc.?" ... for one, quoting names of groups who are either already dead or well past their creative peak only helps proves my point (a main reason behind "Former Industrialists With a Clue" is the fact that Industrial as a musical genre has become moribund, doomed to forever recycling itself; Techno became the genre of choice for those of us who forever continue to search out new, exciting, creative and innovative music). But more to the point, I've *seen* 75% of the bands on the above-quoted list *live* - including T.G.'s next-to-last show. Given that this was back in 1981, and I'd seen Cabaret Voltaire back in late 1980, I'd guess that puts it back around the time you first started to realize that Play-Doh wasn't for eating. To call me "ignorant" when it comes to Industrial is like telling Genghis Khan he could learn a thing or two about invasion strategy.
