My complete personal opinion... There's 1 high sound that hurts my ears. Also, the lows aren't pronounced enough for me, bass lacks punch imho... I do like the song, especially the voice in the 2nd half. I'm absolutely not a professional, so you can safely ignore this :D On 2018-08-19 05:02 AM, David Newman wrote:

Agreed : the rough balance sounds under par. For a start, the most significant symptoms are : • the kick drum level which is much too low • the CR78 hat which requires a generous corrective EQ (@ about 8.8kHz) • the (right panned) « pad » which might benefit from a little low-shelving On Sun, Aug 19, 2018 at 9:48 PM, Laurens Vets <laurens@daemon.be> wrote:

I dunno, only way I can ever get my mixes right is: make mix, listen to it on a million different sound sources. Oh it sounds great? *takes CD out to car* Ewww, those hats! *makes new mix* Sounds good out here...plays back file on computer...eh, that's hollow *fucks with EQ and volume levels* sounds alright, hmmm, wonder how it sounds on my phone speakers *shudders* hmmm where's the bass in my headphones *turns mixer back on...* le sigh. I can't do anything visually, I just have to listen to it a lot and hone in on the things I never caught because I listened to the dang song 100 times while I was making & mixing it. I only do mixes on fresh ears though when I haven't listened to anything yet for the day and come back the next day in case ear fatigue set in. If you're just starting out, it's all going to sound like crap anyway: when you're new at something, you have no idea of what you're doing and how to do it. A lot of my early material sounds like shit. At some point I had to make the decision to record it and move on. Look at each song as a learning process and a step towards making the next one better. Honestly, the mix sounds pretty good, I do hear a dominate high frequency wash in there. I feel that the main culprit is not the master mix, but that some of the channel inputs on the percussion can be brought down a little...I dunno, what I'm hearing is some sort of hotness, either input or compression that gives it a little more body & presence than the rest of the mix. ________________________________ From: Laurent Knauth <laurent.knauth@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, August 19, 2018 2:28 PM To: Laurens Vets Cc: incidental derogatory mnemonics Subject: Re: why are you here?
