Subject: Re: Streetjams -------- This subject is *close* to my heart. In dec '93 (before I got to know about the idm-list) I actually asked the people on the bpm-list about these compilations. Unfortunately noone seemed to know anything about them. So, I am very pleased to see people on this list talking about this great form of idm. There are some other compilations you could check out. * West coast rap 1,2. Contains songs by the old hip-hop-groups of the west coast. Egyptian Lover and such stuff. Some songs are great, others are *not* very good. * West coast rap 3. Haven't heard this one, but it is probably the same style as 1,2. * West coast rap - the pioneers. Same as above. * Macola - the early years. Even more west coast hip-hop/electro. Part one is a re-release of the old compilation 'Hit hip hop on hot vinyl'. Ehhh... yes... the songs *are* better than the title suggests. I can check out the name of the label if anyone is interested. Does someone know any titles and/or recordlabels of the re-released Egyptian Lover stuff? And what the f**k is Music Madness *Plus*? What does it contain besides the ordinary Music Madness-tracks? I have to agree completely with Chris Hilker about the music of Mantronix. Weak rap but *strong* drumprograms. I mean that man, maestro Mantronik that is, has taught me all I know about doing smooth tasteful hihat-programs through his first three albums. It's a great pity he didn't maintain his great style. Does anyone know anything about a compilation of stuff from the old Techno-Hop Label? Their first 12", Beatronic by Unknown DJ, was pure dynamite. To Darshan especially I must say: Try to find the Reckless 12". It is *great*. However the very best recommendation I have for ya is to try to find the albums in the old "Electro"-series. 1-6 are the best, but 7-9 are ok too. There you can find anything from Newcleus' Jam On It to Cybotrons Techno City that has been sampled by everyone and his mother. Talking about Cybotron: does anyone know what label Cybotrons album has been re-released on? Fredrik / RND <f91-fid@nada.kth.se>
