The man is an imbecile who writes formulaic books. I'm glad you enjoy being there. From what I've heard of your music, it is in the same line.

When it pushes blatantly false ideas, I sort of object.

It is good that you have a bottom line and all your "art" is based on it. Even though I've probably dumped over $1000 on your company in the past year, I'm glad to say that I won't support you further. Your "critics" can also be your "customers".

I assume this means you? Hear ye, hear ye, all bend over for the great Heavenly Music CORPORATION. The greatest thing since BACH and the only true ambient music producer on the globe.

Good to know that you can't take any sort of criticism.

OK, someone want to fill me in? Maybe I've had my head in the sand for a while, but if someone (that's you, Pete) wants to take a mail they were sent personally (that's yours, Kim), broadcast it to an entire group (that's y'all, IDM and NM-list) and expect it to have any impact on any of us besides "here's two immature people insulting each other," I'm gonna need some background. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? - Adam J Weitzman INDIVIDUAL, Inc. weitzman@individual.com

Kim's response to my posting his "What is Ambient?" and calling it "drivel" was to mail me personally and attack me for criticizing him when I don't even know him. The old critic vs. artist schtick. I responded with "I don't know Stephen King either" and the response Kim sent me was what you saw quoted in the last message. Kim seems to feel that he is immune to criticism, but if he receives any he should respond offensively. He also can't draw the line between writing an article and an advertisement. The reason I redirected my last response to the lists again was to show what kind of person is running Silent, and why. Someone who apparently treats the non-music-producing consumer as the unwashed masses who have no intelligence of their own, is not someone who I would particularly want to support. The "Moby Idol" syndrome all over again.

And now I will disassociate myself from your nastiness: I've enjoyed Kim Cascone's album and my interactions with him (her? ooops-- I dunno which) on the WELL. In fact, "In a Garden of Eden" is on our top ten list of favorite ambient records. And Silent Records has produced some worthy disks, from "Fifty Years of Sunshine" to "From Here to Tranquillity". Cascone doesn't have any kind of monopoly on mushy-headed rave-related promotional nonsense. I think the list you posted was silly, but I didn't go into a frothing fit over it, or decide I didn't like the album because of it. --- C J Silverio ceej@netcom.com ceej@well.sf.ca.us "I would not wish to be hasty in censuring any one; but I always speak what I think." --Jane Austen

i hate to disagree with you pete, but i've had a few business dealings with Kim and he's a pretty straight-shooting guy. he is definitely not in this just to rip off a bunch of stupid club kids. i don't know what email wires got crossed but all the times i've dealt with him in person, he's been friendly and supportive. now you two kiss and make up.
