To be fair to the creator, they are Ennio Morricone's sounds. Actually, Todd Terry beat Juno Reactor and David Thrussel (David Thrussel?!?!) to those samples by more than 10 years. Orange Lemon - The Texican/Dreams of Santa Anna. http://67.136.66.66/artist/Babe+Ruth " Todd Terry took the Morricone bit (turning it into a wicked enchanting synth riff) and kept a single line of vocals which became the title of his 1988 house classic Dreams of Santa Anna and he also used the same elements on a track called The Texican, both recorded under his Orange Lemon pseudonym." And The Orb used Morricone samples on 'Little Fluffy Clouds', well before either of those mentioned used such samples. http://media.hyperreal.org/library/articles/orb.option ""Little Fluffy Clouds" incorporated the voice of Rickie Lee Jones waxing dreamy abaut her childhood into bubble beats, crowing roosters and Ennio Morricone samples." And Jonzun Crew beat 'em all to the Morricone stuff on 'Space Cowboy', sampling from 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly', in 1983. seek np: Ennio Morricone - 'The Man With A Harmonica' --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I set myself up by saying "it had never been done before," but to clarify: I was referring to the use of a "spaghetti western" motif ('sounds') rather than samples by Morricone. If you have heard the Todd Terry "Dreams..." track (which is pretty awful, btw) then you'll know it's not a spaghetti-western dance track. Obviously, the same goes for Little Fluffy Clouds. While we're on the topic, KLF's "chillout" album has several tracks primarily composed of noodly spaghetti-western type guitar samples (again, not to suggest it's a dance album). <*yawn*> I would be curious if someone can point to a track prior to Pistolero with the same "would be good for a chase scene in 'the Good, Bad and the Ugly' had it been filmed in 2000'" feeling. Anyway, thanks all for the feedback. Still no respone from Pitchfork. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Erasure covered The Good, The Bad And The Ugly as a b-side to one of the singles from The Innocents... I can't say it was good - but it was dance... several steps better is the Acid Horse record on WaxTrax - which was a collaboration between members of Ministry and Richard H. Kirk... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

'Dreams' is less of a "spaghetti-western dance track" than is 'The Texican', however either could be termed a "spaghetti-western dance track", *imo*. Juno Reactor ~and~ David Thrussel are both "pretty awful, btw". imo, of course. seek np: Fad Gadget - One Man's Meat --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

it may be awfully cheesy and cheeky, but patrick wolf/lycanthropy has spent more time in my morning boombox than any other the last year ... tons of fun, great writing, and great programming. allmusic doesn't hint that he got any help with the programming, but seeing how iffy his next release was (that had considerably less programming), i'm assuming he was assisted. anyone know who helped out with this, if anyone did at all? ps. big ups to all teachers reporting back to school today....
