If you weren't aware Radio 1 are going to re-broadcast a mix from the artist who gets the most votes from the following shortlist of ten: Avalanches ( 6%) Beastie Boys ( 3%) Coldcut ( 2%) Fatboy Slim ( 2%) James Lavelle ( 2%) Radiohead ( 1%) Sigur Ros ( 2%) Spiritualized / Jason Pearce ( 62%) Squarepusher ( 20%) Two Lone Swordsmen ( 1%) As you can see Squarepusher is currently losing to Jason Pearce. Blagh. If you follow the link below and vote they will play his mix from 1996 with all the Jackson 5 / dancehall / cabbage patch mashup stuff. An excellent listen. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/breezeblock/mix_selector.shtml The real audio stream is available here if you aren't in the UK: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/rpms/breezeblock.rpm Cheers.

Who is this Jason Pearce? I have never heard of him, how can he be beating out Squarepusher and Avalanches? Or even Coldcut, Fatboy, Radiohead or Sigor Ros? Crazy, he must be some teeny bopping techno pied piper for etards. On Tue, 18 Mar 2003, Martin Hall-May wrote:

Jason Pierce is from Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized. Throwing the controversy hat in the ring...Spacemen 3 were one of the best bands ever, and arguably far more important/influential than Squarepusher. Don't get me wrong I love Squarepusher...but Spaceman 3 were the shit, their cover of Red Krayola's "Transparent Radiation" still blows me away years later (although that said it may just be the drugs from that period talking). Not to be a dick, but you certainly come across as a retard here. You simultaneously talk down other people for not knowing anything about music and then go on to assume that somebody who has contributed greatly to modern music isn't as important as somebody who fits into the small subgenre into which you've pigeonholed yourself. He was a member of Spiritualized and before that Spacemen 3, arguably the two biggest shoegazer bands ever (throw My Bloody Valentine in there and you're set) and definitely not "teeny bopping techno." -- :: atomly :: [ atomly@atomly.com : www.atomly.com ... I purposely tried to come across as an elitist, it amuses me to go overboard and sound like alot of the people on the list. I regret nothing, cuz it worked. On Tue, 18 Mar 2003, atomly wrote:

I caught on, don't worry. Having said that, forget Jason Spaceman and Squarepusher: it's criminal that TLS are getting so few votes. At least Weatherall will be in Chicago next week...
