These are the albums that have impressed me the most this year. In the early months of 2002, none of the new music was appealing to me very much...fortunately the past few months seem to have picked up the slack. Lutz Glandien - The 5th Elephant Tetsuo Furudate & Zbigniew Karkowski - World As Will II Silex - Alphabet Ghislain Poirier - Sous le Manguier Apoptose - Blutopfer Murcof - Martes Codec Scovill - Clinical Imperfections L'ombre - Medicine for the Meaningless Contagious Orgasm - The Cause of the Flow Loess - S/T Shuttle358 - Understanding Wildlife End - Science Fiction Robert _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Anybody care to comment on these releases? Is the shuttle358 more like the excellent "optimal lp" or the less intrigueing "Frame" release? I've seen a good press release on Murcof before, but does anyone have an opinion on this release? I would say they were two of my favorite releases this past year. *Shuttle 358's "Understanding Wildlife" - Beautifully crafted glich/ambient in the tradition of Brian Eno's ambient works and Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works Vol II". One of the best ambient records to come out since Dettinger's "Intershop". *Murcof's "Martes" - Murcof stands at the the forefront of a new breed of electronic music composer. Fusing rich organic string arrangements and subtle piano textures with overtly synthetic rhythms, Murcof is helping close the gap between modern classical music and techno. Other artists I would place into this catagory of "Neo-Classicalist" would be Digitonal, and Bola. Both releases made my top ten list this year. -Sean (a.k.a. Nordic Soul) ^(|_|)^
