True but in light of Sigur Ros and Mum, there's a vibrant music scene that's been springing up there for the last few years. Not that they're a good barometer of hip, but the New York Times were sending correspondents there every few weeks early this year just to get a bead on the scene there. > it's beautiful there... when i sense the next world > war coming i'll do my best to immigrate there, but > if i were just starting out as an electronic musician > (and, hey! i am!) i'd head to the mainland... i'm > moving to LA in the next week or two for this purpose. > my girlfriend and i are going to give it a go at a > year there and see what kind of dent we can make, and > if it doesn't work out, we'll go somewhere else... > that's the plan anyway. god knows i'd rather not > be in LA for any longer than i have to be. It is indeed a beautiful place and I definitely recommend going there. The first thing to get over is that the name of the country is a total misnomer. Most of the ice in Iceland is found on mountain tops and the peoples' freezer in their refrigerator. Greenland is actually almost all ice itself. Iceland has beautiful mountains, thermal springs, gorgeous coastlines, fishing villages and midnight sun. If bjork were american she would've moved to iceland because no one would've appreciated her here when she first started. :)

bjork had to go to mainland europe to realize her goals... iceland still is not really the place to be for music, despite the fact that some quality music has come from there... from what i can gather anyway... there's a reason neither mum nor bjork live there full time anymore. it's beautiful there... when i sense the next world war coming i'll do my best to immigrate there, but if i were just starting out as an electronic musician (and, hey! i am!) i'd head to the mainland... i'm moving to LA in the next week or two for this purpose. my girlfriend and i are going to give it a go at a year there and see what kind of dent we can make, and if it doesn't work out, we'll go somewhere else... that's the plan anyway. god knows i'd rather not be in LA for any longer than i have to be. gregory --- doeznot allow <skitzobiatch@hotmail.com> wrote:

I assume you went to Iceland in summer... I was there over last december.. let me tell you reykjavik is a extemely cold, dark, frozen, unbeareable place in the winter. i'm sure it is really nice in Iceland over the few days of the year they actually have daylight, but the winter is brutal and can make a person go insane. It was about two years ago around... March I believe. Yes, that's a good point- go there in warm months and you'll be happy (though the same applies anywhere I guess). Though I did buy a pile of CD's while I was there, I didn't get a chance to go to any concerts there. I'd guess that with all the recent international interest (the Wire sends writers there now too), this would be a good reason to seek out show when you're there. Not only that but you can visit the Phallological Institute, "probably the only museum in the world to contain a collection of phallic specimens belonging to all the various types of mammal found in a single country." <http://www.ismennt.is/not/phallus/ens.htm> Best, Jason -- Perfect Sound Forever online music magazine perfect-sound@furious.com http://www.perfectsoundforever.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
