2002 will be the year I find "my sound", make some better music and get recognised by Warp... I'll go on to be HUGE I tells you. I've already had some very positive feedback of my existing stuff. Aah, I can dream.... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gil" <gyaker@fragment.com> To: "IDM list" <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, January 04, 2002 4:52 PM Subject: Re: [idm] 2002 predictions

Why not? Live IDM will continue to grow a little as an established indie scene, but still be held back a little by its inherent introverted, bedroom nature. The most successful acts will be those that talk to the audience, perhaps pausing between tracks instead of treating the event like a DJ session. Audiences will enjoy feeling acknowledged for a change, and the whole world will adopt experimental electronic music as the next big thing. There will be even more crossover between indie rawk and idm, perhaps to idm's detriment, but to indie's benefit. There will also be more crossover between hip-hop and idm. None of this will be noticed by anyone. However, the electro thing will pick up some steam and even the big labels will "catch on" ... Adult and Solvent on Astralwerks? Hah! The Cure, noticing Cylob's immense success will release a short EP of vocoded sailor jigs. Industrial/Death-IDM will continue to be ignored. Boards of Canada's new album will come out and shock everyone by containing warm analog synths, numerous head-nodding beats, and a plethora of semi-creepy samples of children and children's television. This will make everyone feel nostalgic for months on end - an emotion never before experienced by anyone. Aphex and Squarepusher will collaborate on an extremely limited, completely rare 1-track record, on their own label because they hate Warp, 10000 copies of which will be for sale at WarpMart. This rare single will be sold over and over on eBay, and make everyone feel nostalgic for months on end - for the old days of Aphex and Squarepusher. Vladislav Delay will renounce electronic music and begin a career as a poet. Skam will release a blizzard of amazing new releases, including new material by Gescom, Bola, Freeform, and Lego Feet, as well as 5 or 6 new unknown artists, shocking everyone by being good again for a change. Bogdan Raczynski will move to Wisconsin and join a Rennaissance Fair as a juggler. ===== .Adam http://www.damek.org/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Actually I bet the electro/80s synth pop thing will blow up. I'm even waiting to see something in this genre break through to top 40 radio. Acid house will come back. Techno will climb back into the 130s. popular softsynths and fx plug ins will continue to shape the sound of things :) -Gil --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Most of all, I hope 2002 will be unpredictable ;) And I hope BoC surprises us with another master piece, that would be *cool*. Cheers César
