TWINE "Circulation" LP (Komplott)
Komplott has finally released this LP from the bilateral-US duo Twine. The
majority of these tracks were completed while the pair was still for all
intensive purposes one unit located in northeastern Ohio, although they have
since parted ways to different areas of the country (but still actively
record and collaborate together as Twine). Sporting some beautiful cover
photography on Komplott's side, Circulation effectively captures the new
direction in which Twine has been moving for some time. Its seven tracks
offer up a myriad of edited and highly manipulated samples, symbols,
textures and atmospheres. Whereas older Twine records focused heavily on
breakbeat rhythms or more regular drum patterns, the rhythm of Circulation
is anything but typical, using highly manipulated marimba sounds, snippets
of voice, clicks, zips, and many a neoclassical sample to form multi-layered
collages. This is sonic abstraction at its best, working in the foreground
and background of its own devices without becoming just wallpaper.
Because these tracks were recorded some time ago, keep on eye on where the
pair is heading with their upcoming Hefty and Bip-Hop releases... this is
one American outfit that is pushing the envelope progressively with time.
