I like what safety scissors did with the vocals on his newest record too, "parts water". Really good album overall. There seems to be a trend happening with non-chopped up vocals in idm type music. Bleeding over from indy rock maybe? Herbert's doesn't sound too indy but safety scissors does, a bit anyway. alx --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think indie definitely has something to do with it. One of the best things that Morr did was put out the Piano Magic remixes, while those are really nice, I went out and bought some original Piano Magic and those are great. They seem to be slowing crossing over to an electronic sound, lots of crackles on their latest one. I'll have to check out that safety scissors. That reminds me, the Styrofoam record has some great muted, somewhat depresing vocals on it, I can't even understand what he's saying (its probably better that way). They sort of hint at early new order vocals where the voice is so bassy that the individual words get washed away. Lastly, Schneider TM's cover of "There is a light..." by the smiths, thats just fucking amazing. ____________________________________________ Adesh Deosaran Uneven Foundation T 1(718)349-1578 F 1(718)504-4010 adesh@unevenfoundation.com www.unevenfoundation.com -----Original Message----- From: alex [mailto:amorken@biosci.cbs.umn.edu] Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 8:58 AM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] His Name is Alive

I was recently given a couple of His Name is Alive's 12" for the song "Nothing Special". The B-side has 2 remixes, 1 by Burnt Friedman and the other by Herman and Kliene. The song is just plain beautiful. I've never heard of this guy before but this single is definitely straight up R&B, its so R&B that even the remixes don't really bother with trying to put an idm twist on things. Vocals are a damn good thing, its too bad that its not the "idmest" thing to do. I thing its easy to cut up vocals over a choppy beat (which most people do) but it must be really hard to suppress the idm ego and not tamper with the vocals. The new Herbert record has some great un-touched vocals on it as well. Anyway, Rumor has it that His Name is Alive will be doing 4 shows here in NYC, one for every tuesday of august. The first show will feature ectomorph and adult. ____________________________________________ Adesh Deosaran Uneven Foundation T 1(718)349-1578 F 1(718)504-4010 adesh@unevenfoundation.com www.unevenfoundation.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i second that.. in my opinion the fourtet remix is the best.. it is VERY very fourtet sounding (a la the new lp).. lovely production.. a fantastic couple of 12"s on 4AD.. check 'em out. tom x --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
