uhh...try reminding people that this was NOT a rave! keep your glow sticks at home next time...and i hope there wasn't anyone on this list involved in that fucking congo line! if you were, get off the list now! um, autechre was, um, ok...i think they made stuff up as they went along? i don't know...the sounds were neat, but they needed more...they needed a bit more diversity...it was just long and repetetive...i didn't NOT like it, but i dunno...wanted something more then the same loud beat for an hour... good night. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

some additional thoughts about AE in DC: 1. the first dj (rob hall?) played hell interface (yay !!!!!) - which sounded fantastic on a loud system. 2. and he played other wicked electro 3. men's recovery project was complete shit - and they reveled in it. 4. it seemed like a good chunk of the crowd was there for the complete shit (see above) 5. ae started out four on the floor and moved quickly into utter chaos 6. but i could follow the thread (read: beat) that wove the chaos together 7. except for about the last twenty minutes. i don't know what the fuck happened then. as a reviewer of an earlier show said "that's when ae ate my head." 8. i only counted 3 tracks. but i was, uh, drunk - so who knows? 9. a friend of mine swears he heard snippets from tri-repetae. i think he's off his rocker. 10. the crowd seemed more industrial than raver-rific to me. but the glow sticks were annoying (but then - they're always annoying). 11. i didn't see a conga line (thankfully). was i at the same show as heather? 12. haswell sounded interesting - but after ae he was boring and we left. 13. i fall squarely in the amber/tri-repetae camp - and i still thought the show was amazing. it was anything but repetetive. i think insane would be the appropriate descriptive term 14. who knew that the apple symbol on mac powerbooks glows in the dark? - d ----- Original Message ----- From: Heather L Woskey <s2hlwosk@atlas.vcu.edu> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Saturday, May 26, 2001 4:29 AM Subject: [idm] DC + Autechre

i thought men's recovery project were fantastic, although, i certainly agree w/ you that i think most people were there to see THEM...you must have been in a totally different section than i was cuz i'm telling you, i was surrounded by children lost in MTV Rave-To-Go...it was obnoxious! it seemed like Ae played but only 4 tracks...and the apple logos glowing was neat...like i said though, they made good sounds, but repeated the same ones into 4 songs or so...and i like the beat, but that was, well, mostly all it was... i thought it was a good show overall. rob hall's electro set was awesome and eventually made me dance (after a few drinks). the congo line was embarrassing, but funny in a way. kinda like men's recovery project. those dopey masks were just silly. autechre was good and it was cool to hear them on the 9:30 sound system, but i agree with heather. too repetitive. they sounded best when they broke down those beats and went a lot slower. otherwise, the beats were just way too fast for too long. my favorite i think was maybe the 3rd (?) track/part where they started with an actual melody. the dj after them was ok and got me dancing a little, but at that point, i think i was starved for some kind of hook and was pretty drunk and lit. my only real complaint: why wasn't autechre selling any records at the show? i was hoping to pick up the new album. which reminds me, did anyone at the show recognize anything from confield or was it all completely different stuff? jeff

<<1. the first dj (rob hall?) played hell interface (yay !!!!!) - which sounded fantastic on a loud system.>> This was one of the highlights of the El Rey show imo, also when he spun a sped up Ae track (forgot which one) off tri repetae! Also dropped in old New Order for fun. The only actual dancing I enjoyed all evening - outside of the mental dancing during Ae. <<14. who knew that the apple symbol on mac powerbooks glows in the dark?>> Odd thing, Plaid choose to cover over the offending light with parallelograms of black tape, while Ae (who detest any stage/floor lighting of any kind) allowed the soft glow from their titanium G4's to illuminate the crowd. Go figure.

I noticed the same thing. I think that Plaid might have covered the Apple symbol for legal reasons since they had guys photographing and taping their shows.
