Hmm. I'm not sure that I agree with all of this analysis of IDM. As far as I could recall the label for the genre was just that, a label. Not a set of rules. Hell, if music was all about really getting particular over the genre names I don't believe so many rock artists would get filed under alternative - a label that wore out the instant it become just slightly mainstream.
And besides - drum and bass are still in a lot of IDM releases and are still the backbone to a lot of the newer stuff coming out. Plus I recall reading the IDM definition on the site for this list and remember it saying that the genre was pretty much open to whatever was in some way electronic, for listening and the opposite of mainstream techno. The dance in IDM mostly refers to the origin of the style coming out of the techno and dance movements.
Not that anyone going to be right on this issue - there is never a right answer when it comes down to all of us giving our personal opinions.
