Bobmlike got me into the toytronic label which I would have never even heard about or found a record store by casual browsing. Talking about that UK label Toytronic, following my posts on the great Novel 23 I received a message from another UK label BENBECULA and i thought you might want to read it. Before sharing this info i checked it out and Roman Belousov/Novel 23 confirmed that it was a sad story... So maybe Toytronic issue good-looking records but stealing songs is definitely a bad attitude. It would be nice to read their version, and in the meantime here's the message from : b e n b e c u l a" <mail@benbecula.com> hello you may be interested to know (and perhaps to inform the list) that the novel 23 track on the toytronic comp, was included without the permission of either novel 23 nor benbecula records who officially released it on "music volume one", in its entirity. cheers steven. benbecula records - po box 23250, edinburgh eh1 2xq - scotland. http://www.benbecula.com v/a "music volume one" (ben 008) SOLD OUT mikael romanenko "untitled" (ben 010) 2001 v/a "music volume two" (ben 012) 2001 v/a "alba absurdia" (ben 014) 2001 AND NOW the confirmation from NOVEL 23 : Yes, it's a sad story. At the beginning of the year 2000 I had received invitation to Toytronic compilation. I had sent 3 tracks to him, and they wrote me that they would use the first track. 2-3 month later I received invitation from Steven (Benbecula records) about a track for his compilation. I sent him 2 tracks that Toytronic hadn't used from the demo. Steven selected the third track. As a result, when Toytronic compilation was released, I saw that Martin (Gimmik) had changed his mind and used another track. :( I was very annoyed about it, because I had already given this track to Benbecula records with an exclusive property. It was late to change something, because Benbecula's master disk of compilation was already sent to the plant. I know that Steven was disappointed at it, and Martin was in a philosophic mood about it. Anyway, it was not my mistake, but it has learned me to send a track demo for compilations only to one label at the same time. A good lesson that every musician among you should keep in mind, and I have nothing against Toytronic but I think that bad attitudes have to be kept in mind... When one does a label one has to be honest. philippe ************************************************************** http://www.bip-hop.com unconventional sound adventures, adventurous & creative electronica... ************************************************************** BiP-HOp Generation v.1 MARUMARI / SCHNEIDER TM / PHONEM / GOEM / ULTRA MILKMAIDS / MASSIMO BiP-HOp Generation v. 2 AROVANE / BERNARD FLEISCHMANN / WARMDESK / KÖHN / WANG INC. / LAURENT PERNICE Bip-Hop is a label devoted to spread unconventional sound adventures, adventurous & creative electronica... sounds, based on machines, mix, modulations, modifications, sampling, glitches, clicks & cuts... blip... bleep... bip... to add more to the toytronic story. martin contacted me if he could license the track 'shift' from the service pack by cim, released on delsin in 1999, to be included on neurokinetic. that was ok with us, so we even did put up a contract etc.. no advance because it was all small labels, alternative music together, etc so simon walley sent a md with all the eight tracks, and when the 'neurokinetic' things were released, there seemed to be another track on the vinyl version!! so not only 'shift' on cd, but also the track 'recursive' on vinyl without the artist nor the label knowing about it! confusion at my side - no replies to emails, but in the meanwhile i knew he did reply to others people email, i had to call myself to recieve some copies, and the artist still has to recieve those.. & when i asked about the emails, "well, i wasn't online for some weeks", while i knew he was emailing with others. and furthermore also the releases of neurokinetic don't mention any license or credits to the original labels. the reason he gave about that vinyl: "oh didn't i ask? well, it's only 500 copies. and it doesn't sell that either" when i spoke with serge from clone/dub lately he told he didn't license anything as he had bad experiences with martin toytronic in the past. well, that 'just another' story - and i'm very wondering about the financial part later on. it's good to know that martin (gimmik) is working at sister ray in berwick street and that he seems to have an own way of doing these music things. marsel delsin/amsterdam At 13-1-01 +0100 13:09, you wrote:
