Actually - no. Not when it has *ever* been the fault of the media IN GENERAL (and by that I mean a specific type. I've found bad discs in all kinds of media). The only problem I've ever found along those lines is when there's no label or opaqueness in the 'up' side of the cdr; think of it like taking the backing off of a mirror. It cuts reflectivity and makes the cdr less easy to read. Nowdays, though, media has generally improved (I've been a burnin' foo for several years) and it's not as risky as it used to be. It used to be a rule of thumb that gold was the best (because of reflectivity), but with the advent of platinum, black and other fancy-schmancy varieties, that's not so often the case. I *never* have any problems with using blue or green media and it plays back just as well. I usually buy the cheapest thing I can which my lowest-grade player will not argue with (usually a boombox or car player use cheaper lasers for reading). If you're making cdrs which your cd-rom will not read, chances are pretty good your burner is on the fritz. You might try VERY CAREFULLY opening it up and lubing the shaft on which the laser moves with some silicone solution (it's expensive and can be found at high-tech audio shops. Also works great for buffing CDs). Be very careful, though. If the laser of off-kilter even a tad you'll get nothing but coasters. Sometimes the loading tray can be off a bit and cause the same results. Lasers do tend to have a shelf life. Damn Newton. jeff Anyone ever make a CDR of audio tracks and find out later on that they are unable to rip or copy it to another CDR? Cheap media. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
