The whole Wendy/Walter sex-change thing has not been real clear to me. I have a copy of Sonic Seasonings on vinyl that says Walter Carlos on the cover. I have read/heard many stories as to why Wendy used to be called Walter. I have a hard time believing any of them. Even though she does kind of look like John Malkovich with a bad toupee! She/He was/is a huge influence on many artists today.(BoC being one of the obvious ones) I believe that Autechre noted her as being an influence in an interview a few years back. Oh well, either way(with or without a shlong) Wenter has produced some great work.(Sonic Seasonings, STs:Tron and The Shining as well as A Clockwork Orange) Rick --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, I do understand what Joe's talking about. Though I'm absolutely not supportive of his sexist approach I got to admit that I've never met a girl who likes idm as well... I know plenty of girls that like IDM. In fact, if anyone went to the Kid606 show at the Knitting Factory in LA, you would have seen many females, dressed up/dressed down, *not* necessarily hanging on their boyfriends arm, digging the music. I don't think many girls really *care* about dorky boys drooling over synths, but I know plenty of *boys* that don't care about dorky boys drooling over synths. If the music is interesting in any way beyond how it was created, there will be people that are attracted to it. The only reason there's this geeky boys club elitism is from a bunch of people that get so involved in their little programming world they temporarily lose track of their social skills (I say this out of experience). Then there are the affected intellectual wannabes...who are very wack. -l -l[e^2] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

What's going on here? Is IDM really THAT GEEKY? There must surely be some cute boys and girls out there that are into this stuff. I've heard people on this list talk about the 'geek' (I hate that word so much) factor of IDM before now and I must say that I wasn't aware of this until I joined this list. But then, I don't get out much. No-one else I know in the whole universe likes the same music as me so I have to sit around listening to people take the piss out of it the whole time because it's not conventional or over-produced and glossy sounding or it sounds a bit retro or whatever. *sigh* Geeky? Is it really that geeky? )Jamesq. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
