first band to use a sampler??? really?? , analog sample and hold devices and tape delay devices are kinda samplers so it's probably someone from the earlier days of electronic music. For the longest time, i tought Frank Zappa's "We're only in it for the money" was the first recording to feature extensive sampling and tape manipulations. Still my favorite Zappa album :) In Pink Floyd "live at Pompe?" movie , Waters uses some kind of synth/tone generator , during the studio bit (playing a weird and more electronic version of dark side song) and i was wondering what this thing was. Add n to (x) uses it also as Barry has one on the cover of "Avant Hard" and on picture on their web site. Add insult to injury is really good, Ann Shenton is really, really lovely (my vote for prettiest elctronic artist) and i'm wondering if all the vinyl copies are scratch 'n' sniff like mine , it smells like freshly cut grass. Thanks J-F np : flatplastic's show

Hey, what a coincidence. I just watched "Live at Pompei" last night. What a fucking great movie. Sheer incredible pretension, amazing performace.... The piece of gear Waters in fucking with in the studio looks to be a VCS3 suitcase model. A great piece of gear. I saw Sonic Boom clear a room after playing one for 2 hours at a E.A.R gig... Jeff

I must agree that the film is great. it really captures P.Floyd at their peak. the scene with waters playing "the briefcase synth" is one of my favorite bits. it sounds like he is working on the synth part that will be used on dark side of the moon's second track. that sweet rolling synth bit that builds to a roaring scream.
