Well the Studio 1 is the product of a particular process -- playing the Studio 1 recordings that Richie Hawtin produced, and playing them on modified turntables. His 'normal' tracks are in some respects similar in intent, but there's actually a fair amount of variety in sound and intent. It's all pretty fabulous if you like that dubby german sound. kent williams -- kent@avalon.net http://jump.to/cornwarning -- Iowa's First Techno Record Label http://www.mp3.com/chaircrusher -- tunes --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Congrats on finding Brinkmann's stuff enjoyable! But be warned, you can go broke collecting it all. The recent ERNST series (named after womens names) was repressed recently, and a compilation CD was released. They focus on very minimal house to varying degrees.. some are pretty "funky", some are more monotonous/spartan beat workouts. You might just want to get the CD and then go from there. Other choices: The "soul center" material is fairly funky with rather blatent sections lifted right from obvious sources (but in a fun way). My favorite lately is the "max ernst & friends" series of 12"s which star Brinkmann and guests doing that cologne minimal house thang (a little more off-kilter than the women's names releases). #5 (w/vladislav delay) and #6 are simply brilliant.. Also, probably one of my faves is still the hawtin 96:VR release, produced in a similar manner to the studio1 variations. All of these choices would probably please you greatly; just be careful at 10-11$ (US$, YMMV) a pop for a 12"! I sorta get the idea, but I liked Variationen better. I did a yahoo search trying to get a contact address but aside from places to order the music, all I found was an e-address to a chemistry professor named Thomas Brinkmann. Anybody have a contact address or email address? thanks mediadrome --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The usual suspects should carry a reasonably good stock. A search for keyword "brinkmann" on forced exposure brings up 40-something hits. I don't think Mr. Brinkmann is a professor though... but it seems that even those with more unusual names have imposters on the net. A friend of mine found gifs of a teenager with my name doing skateboard tricks.
