i was also in attendence at the sin festival. never have i seen so many amazing performances in 4 short days. highlights included i-sound, jega, freeform, solenoid. there were others where i didn't get the name of the group or person that were no lesser. the people attending the shows were (with a few exceptions, of course) extremely nice. also, the safety in #'s crew should be aware of the exceptional job they did with the organizing of an event of such proportions. let them know so this festival will take place again. two thumbs up. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adesh Deosaran" <adeosaran@plumbdesign.com> Date: Monday, October 30, 2000 8:40 am Subject: RE: [idm] sin festival?

Solenoid was really fun, doesn't anyone know who the guy was that sang with him for one song. Also I've got to give props to Nicole Elmer (neutral)for dropping some of the nastiest idm beats I've heard in a while at baktun. Alphatronic and fingernail were also exceptional on thursday. the safety in numbers crew definitely did a good thing and I look forward to many more. In the meantime (plug) If anyone is in williamsburg tonight drop by level X for some drinks and some idm amoung other styles and things. the sinfestival was a great way to see what the nyc scene was about now it would just be great is we kept supporting these smaller events throughout the city. check the url for more info, or email me http://www.activaire.com/recordcamp ____________________________________________ p l u m b d e s i g n Adesh Deosaran | Information Designer 157 chambers st ny ny 10007 p.212-285-8600 x240 f.212-285-8999 -----Original Message----- From: Jonathan Minor [mailto:em@megsinet.net] Sent: Monday, October 30, 2000 2:32 PM To: Adesh Deosaran Cc: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: RE: [idm] sin festival? i was also in attendence at the sin festival. never have i seen so many amazing performances in 4 short days. highlights included i-sound, jega, freeform, solenoid. there were others where i didn't get the name of the group or person that were no lesser. the people attending the shows were (with a few exceptions, of course) extremely nice. also, the safety in #'s crew should be aware of the exceptional job they did with the organizing of an event of such proportions. let them know so this festival will take place again. two thumbs up. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adesh Deosaran" <adeosaran@plumbdesign.com> Date: Monday, October 30, 2000 8:40 am Subject: RE: [idm] sin festival?

i went to friday.s 3b show...and ended up going to both... showed up at project ezra a little before the show...went inside and waited around...talked a bit with 0.5 of scenic...then finally people started showing up... scenic was on first with a dj set...a bit of a mix of live adaptations and mixing...plenty of autechre, aphex, and a neat beat-matched mix of phoenecia.s "rhythm box" into aphex twin.s "on"... after scenic i don.t know who went on...i think that it was lunar...although i couldn.t be sure...and i was too excited about seeing l'usine later... their (possibly lunar) set wasn.t anything spectacular... during the middle of their set the sound went out...and noah i think...from sin came over and told us all to go over to 104 stanton to the saint... 3a at project ezra was copped out. apparently someone had called the cops about the noise...so rather than have them see all the people packed into that tiny little place...with some underaged people there (myself included)...and some people smoking pot, sin sent us over to the 3a show before the cops showed up... i hung around a bit...asked 0.5 of scenic what was going on...heard shad t. scott of isophlux say that he had taken 02 hours to set up his gear and that there was no way that he was going to take the time to set it all up again at the saint...apparently he was going to do a computer set instead... i found out later that adult had left altogether... so we headed over to the saint...following everyone over there...and were greeted by the bouncer at the door...who when i walked by with my friend said: "damn...some of y'all look kinda young..." the saint is TINY...they had the pa wired both upstairs and downstairs...which was pretty loud (good thing i brought my ear-plugs)...upstairs was a little room with tables and chairs and a bar in the back... downstairs was where the action was at...all of the musicians set up along the front wall...a little mac-run projector in the far back corner...with the bar on the far left side, and the stairs back upstairs on the right... finishing up was burning rome and the mad monkey crew...although i can.t be sure it was burning rome...(i don.t know what any of these people look like)...but i had seen mad monkey before at walker street stage so i knew what they looked like... burning rome did a really interesting set musically...but it was pretty boring otherwise...laptop set... i don.t know who played next...because i decided to go upstairs and outside to get some "fresh" air...talked a little more to 0.5 of scenic... went back to see solenoid setting up...his set was phenominal...he mixed it up good by playing a drum-pad-midi-controller...roland i know...i don.t remember the number...which he had wired to a ry-30 and a peavey effects processor...he had a cd player running all of his material...which he seemed to have a LOT of...he.d rummage through about 12 cd-r.s that he had...all filled to the brim (judging by the track-listings on them)...so he.d flip through them...mix the tracks live, and add a little more of a live feel by actually playing the drums to the songs...he had his drum sticks and all...adding a very organic feel to it...great set from solenoid...look out for his new stuff on emanate... by then shad seemed to be getting pretty impatient for l'usine to go on...he kept sarcastically clapping and hooting... after they had l'usine wired into solenoid.s mixer...and had the channels all figured out right things got underway... l'usine.s set was F***ING AWESOME...totally blew me away...as the place was packed i may have even danced...(and i don.t normally dance)...but there was some serious head-nodding going on let me tell you... get EVERYTHING you can by l'usine... then shad started yelling into the headphones that he had wired into his imac..."YO...THAT.S MY DOG L'UUUUUUSINEEEEEEE"...whatever...stuff like that... later, 0.5 of scenic told me that he.s a pretty crazy guy that shad...i believe him... anyway...shad went on next...playing his recent dance floor party mix of tunes...hip-hop classics mixed up with dance floor type 909 beats... i don.t know...not my cup of tea...and by then it was 02:00...so i went out to talk to 0.5 of scenic again...really nice guy... and that.s it... i wish i could have gone to the other nights though...oh well... lander;. _________________________________________________________________________ From: Alex Reynolds <reynolda@sas.upenn.edu> To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] sin festival?
