I know I am probably wrong, since I usually think I have identified sounds and am completely incorrect, but would anyone agree that the growl appearing on "Pete standing alone" by BOC could have been lifted from the voice of the alien in the shop section of the classic Amiga blaster Xenon II? In a similar vein, the clunks of "Space Love" by Leila sound very reminiscent of "The Dancers End Engine" at Kew Bridge Engines Works (now steam museum) in London (http://www.kbsm.org/engines/index.htm). I have not been there since my youth, and am probably completely wrong, however. There are many similar sounds I claim to have identified in my head that I cannot remember at present, but if it would not bore people too much, I would be quite interested in a compilation of similar impossible-to-prove (making it much more fun) audio references proposed by members of this list. I am an incredibly anal person, and like this kind of thing. I like thinking 'oh yeah' when someone tells me something sounds like something else, is all. So: 1) Growling sound, Pete Standing Alone, MHTRTC, Boards of Canada - Xenon II shop alien 2) Clunks, Space Love, Like Weather, Leila - The Dancers End Engine, Kew Bridge Steam Museum - The Triple Expansion Engine, Kew Bridge Steam Museum If you can think of better suggestions of the above, please ammend. Alternatively, add your own. Isn't this fun? If I have opened a can of worms to a incredibly bad idea that has gone awol in the past, then I apologise. Thanks, Tom. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. uhh, maybe i'm just making this up, but i distinctly hear the "growl" as a voice, saying "balloons", and "bollocks". i'm not so sure on the "balloons" part, but the "bollocks" part stands out clearly to me. i could just be a self-fulfilling prophecy, too, so there's no way to konw for sure. although i do know boards of canada seem much more interested in sampling their friends than sampling video games. anywho cheers, /derek - - - - - - - "Extremism is no vice when God's on your side" -Opus the Penguin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
