i agree. this electronic music shit is so 1900's. can't we move on? i mean people were making some of these sounds in the 50's. i have a flexi disk of grade school kids making sounds that so many of these artists are making -- and it was released in the 70s. why do we keep coming back to this electronic music bullshit? we NEED TO MOVE FORWARD. PROGRESS IS WHAT MUSIC IS ABOUT. FUCK THAT BABY BOOMER ELECTRONIC SHIT. (for what its worth, that cylob fellow produces some pretty insane not-so-80s-sounding-stuff. before folks make a blanket generalization of an artist, they should know the scope of the work they are generalizing. i dont think any of the cylob shit is the best thing ever... but most certainly it doesn't take much more than a kid who has never left his bedroom to figure out cylob has done more than just "cheesey 80s"). Cylob can write a cracking tune and still impress technically, unlike half the young pretenders we have today. Granted, not everything he does is a winner, but Rewind could have been massive if they'd marketed it right and made a slightly more commercial mix. Almost chart stuff I reckon - was this the track that Cylob was talking about a few years ago that he thought was going to be massive? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

"Are We Not Men Who Live And Die" is (IMO) one of the more beautiful IDM tracks *ever* recorded and has absolutely nothing to do with the 80s synthpop that seems to be so closely associated with the esteemed Mr. Jeffs. Anyway, if you haven't heard it, it's a bunch of analog synths that sound like a choir singing "are we not men who live and die" over and over again; I've been told was done without a vocoder or a sampler or anything but even if that's not true (even if it's not, I'm going to keep believing it, heh) it's still a fucking awesome song. The combination of the haunting melody -- I hate to say it's "neoclassical" but that's the only word I can think of -- and the almost eerie "computer" voice of the ANALOG synths is just flat out amazing. Anyway, you guys can keep fighting about the 80s stuff if you want :) I like Cylob though, I really like DIOF97 a whole lot, and it's cheesy as fuck, so I guess YMMV. beep beep beep beep beeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep beep ... :D I found my "AWNMWLAD" single (for $2) while I was looking for Billy Childish singles last year sometime. Dame Fortune was smiling on my that day. -- .Bil. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
