I'm curious... this is the second time I've seen someone do this recently (for the Gescom MD). Somebody will post that they have something for sale/trade, and then almost immediately another person will post that they've either seen it for less somewhere else, or that they know of another place that may or may not carry it. This is just plain rude. Why would you side-step someone's sale? I've seen this done so many times on so many different lists. If you know of a place that carries the Gescom minidisc, then post a lead by all means. But waiting until a sale list is posted serves no purpose other than to be spiteful. My suggestion(s) would be to post a lead when you know of it, and/or to wait a few days after a person has posted their sale to offer other lead options. And most importantly... do not use the same subject header as the original post. .`-). christopher miller o o.' evil@fdt.net == ' ps. I do not know the original seller, nor am I taking his side. Why is it rude? I have no problems with stopping someone's attempt to cash in on so-called "rare" recordings when they're available for *good* prices somewhere. -- andrij. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think, on this list in particular, everyone imagines that everything that gets put up for auction is out of print and rare and will fetch a high price, whereas lots of people sell stuff on ebay just because they don't need it and want to recoup some portion of what they paid. Not that it's any of my business! I prefer avoiding getting screwed, not you? I suppose you don't mind the fact that some people actually try to sell FREE promos through eBay, and actually get money for them? I like trades and auctions just as much as the next guy, but too many sellers on eBay just plain and simply take advantage of those who don't know that an item is NOT worth the minimum price asked for it. This will be so devastating for the market in the long run, as some regular stores are going to push up their prices when they see that this is what a specific item is worth on the auction circuit. The Gescom MD is not worth US$25 as it is now, period. Let the seller try again in a few years. (Or maybe even months, as the last pressing went out the door pretty fast). If anyone spots any scams like this, I will always appreciate being told by a caring soul. In light of all the current discussion about Gescom minidiscs - I got mine at towerrecords.com for, like $12 or something like that a couple months ago. So, if anybody here wants one...gee, perhaps I'll go to towerecords.com, buy a shitload of 'em, and sell 'em off for, like $30 on e-bay ;P ----- Original Message ----- From: SqrRt <sqrrt@total.net> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, August 02, 2000 2:17 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Not-So Rude Sales Tactics (was Re: Gescom)
