i would agree with you, except that (at the advice of a previous
poster) i keep repeating to myself: "idm is a list, not a genre."
so in reality, nothing is idm except this list. this list is the
only thing that "is idm." nothing aphex or autechre have ever done
is idm, except for any messages they might have ever posted to this
list.
if i write a song called "this is idm," no matter the style, it is
not idm. if, however, i write a message to the list describing it,
_that_ is idm.
