I was re-listening to Ischemic Folks today, and finding quite a bit I still like about it (for example, I quite like the first two tracks (by Phoenecia & Richard Devine)), despite my continuing opinion that it's one of the lesser interesting releases I own, and inferior to Lily of the Valley which I quite like. At any rate, it for some reason made me to go back and listen to my copy of Beta Bodega Coalition's 'Rice And Beans' cd, which I know next to nothing about. I know nothing about Beta Bodega Coalition, except that it's not just one artist, and there's a label and a couple of vinyl compilations. I only own this Rice And Beans CD (which also seems to be titled 'psychological warfare...' to some people), and I can't figure out who did what track, etc. I can't seem to find much info on the net, either, so could someone help me out about what/who Beta Bodega Coalition is, and what their other releases are like relative to the Rice And Beans CD? Anyway, I also went back and listened to my COH cds ("Vox Tinnitus" and "Enter Tinnitus") which I was getting ready to sell, and I found I enjoyed them all right now. COH, Beta Bodega Coalition, and the Schematic label are all different - no doubt - but I was drawing parallels between them tonight, and also enjoying my 3 Jake Mandell CDs. So my other question is this: does anyone have any suggestions about other music I might like that might be similar to these labels/artists? Finally, I'm looking for more info on Phonem -- I've heard the name a couple of times recently, and found the web site, but I still find nothing that describes the music. What is it like? Perhaps best of all would be if someone could point me to Real Audio or mp3 samples... legit of course. try www.betabodega.de. I remember there is a list of artists, but I don't know if it shows corresponding tracks.

hmm, my tastes must be different than yours because to me that sample sounded quite ... not to my tastes. i'm not into that - it seemed pretty boring and monotonous. however, i found a review of "phonetik" (12" by phonem on morr music) over at http://motion.state51.co.uk/reviews/535.html -- they have two samples of music that sounds quite melodic and interesting. at least, it sounds very different to me from that sample over at the '25' site. can anyone tell me if the "phonetik" 12" is really so different from the "hydroelectric" CD? because I'd like more music like the samples at the 'motion' site, but i'd prefer not to spend money on music like the sample at the '25' site... -adam On Thu, 22 Jun 2000 11:55:14 EDT, Cichli@aol.com wrote:

I have the HydroElectric LP on Morr Music; I think its fantastic. On of the best things I've picked up lately. Its a bit like Autechre, so if the phrase 'ae-clone' makes you squirm, then maybe its not for you. I don't think its derivative at all, it stands on its own, but stylistically its similar to Tri-Rep era autechre. The rhythms are mostly downtempo, with many glitchy/fuzzy sounds for the percussion, and floaty ambient strings mixed throughout. Nice syncopation all over the place to keep the beats interesting. I find the rhythms reminding me a little more like Freeform (the Me shape robotic stuff) because of the syncopation What I like most about this release is that all the tracks are long (average 9 minutes I think), so you can listen to the subtle changes as the tracks evolve over time. I'm a pretty patient listener, so I like it when artists take advantage of it :-) Not too many things I've bought lately have had tracks this long. If you like Arovane (not as much 'Tides' but all the other stuff), then this is a must have. Hope this helps, Aronne ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
