What's the score on Company Flow? I'm listening to Little Johnny from the Hospital - trying to decide whether I love it or hate it (or maybe just like it a little bit). The tracks start out promisingly enough - slowed down hip hop, dark sounding textures and atmospherics, but then don't seem to develop or go anywhere. Or am I asking too much ... ? the album is subtitled something like "breaks and instrumentals"... that usually means it's just repetitive beats and loops for dj's to cut over, run accapellas atop, use as backround music on MTV's Total Request Live, etc. I would say that Little Johnny offers more than the typical breaks/instrumentals record, but it's definitely not fully developed "songs" by any means. So, yeah, I think you're asking too much :) Hey, get two turntables and make your own "developments" on top of the beats, that's what its for, right? oshj -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi On Mon, 29 May 2000, Irene McC wrote:

of course it also caused terrible confusion in the world of music, as of course everyone knows that instrumental beats made by a white guy must be classified as 'trip-hop', yet for some reason when this was done it was acceptable to be carrried by self proclaimed 'hip-hop only' shops becuase it was associated with Co-Flow. Various identity confusion followed, but eventually the sheep manged to justify that since it was from NY the same rules didn't apply.... (for the record, Company Flow are excellent with and without vocals....just a cheap shot at the state of 'pure hip-hop') Jeff
