so what defines intelligence in today's dance music scene?!? when you guys talk about IDM, i think of music with a simple melody and a direction...nothing more. that, in turn, categorizes just about every piece of written electronic music as IDM. on the other hand...y would you even want to seperate electronic dance music into "intelligent" and "non-intelligent" genres?? with one of the two labels being given, does that really do anything for the artist that wrote the track? electronic music should be labeled intelligent, as it takes some skill and "intelligence" for the programming, sequencing, and recording aspect of the track. ed haze --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

In addition to all the warm and fuzzy things about music and "community" and whatever else you want to attribute to idm@hyperreal.org, it's a great place to learn how to use procmail :) .Bil. Amen, brother. Heck, when I joined the list three or four years ago, the IDM homepage specifically said IDM is a mailing list, not a genre. Making that distinction sure would eliminate some of the clutter that's been around here lately. Go on and say it, guys, you like techno and hip hop. Maybe just a small subset of the two, but if you're going to name names, you might as well do it right. Now, back to the music... anyone know how Isan's Digitalis EP compares to Salamander? I was thinking of picking up the former, but I'm a bit tight on money right now. One other unrelated question--could some of the San Francisco list members drop me an email (off-list) mentioning your favorite music stores. I'll be on a business trip there next month and would like to find some pleasure too.
