Got the last set of Ventolin CD's in Iowa City. Favorite so far is the probus mix. Probus remix -- Melodic and wiggy. This points to what RDJ will be capable of when he gets more involved in the melodic/harmonic end of things. The main mix -- I like a good sharp stick in the ear as much as the next guy, but that high pitched squealing isn't necesary. If I had the gear, I'd remix it by putting a parametric EQ on that tone and take it down about 10 db. Praze-An-Beeble -- the beginning bit has very original sounds. This may be some of his homemade gear in action. Reminds me almost of the totally out-there stuff that Morton Subotnik does. The laughing bit starts out promising -- picking up on the little melody in the laugh. That by itself could be the basis of an interesting track. Cylob mix -- Love that beat. Love the melodic progression. Deep Gong mix -- this is on the t**p h*p tip to some extent and is funky in a real low key way, but ultimately seems pretty uneventful. -- kent.williams@cadsi.com -- All views expressed are. I think you are right baout the ring mod, but I don't think it is the whole mix being run through it. It sounds like the ms20 ring mod of VCO2 just wide open and fancy free. Maybe he has an input to the ring mod on his ms20? Maybe just the percussion, come to think of it. I haven't had the chance to listen to this again in the last couple days. I'm not familiar with the MS20. However, I have been looking for a ring-mod box for a long time. If I knew enough about electronics I'd build one. But I want to be able to ring-mod two signals together, not just ring-mod a signal and a given frequency (as on the Boss units). Can't say I've made a huge effort to find a ring-mod but if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm up to the task of building from a kit, but I don't know how to do it from scratch.
