Count me in as another huge Jeff Mills fan, although i haven't had the money to keep up with him recently. Waveform Transmission v.1 is one of my all-time fave techno albums. While we're on a Mills thread, what do people think of Leo Anibaldi? I understand he is from the same intelligent-hardcore stable. Ditto for Robert Armani's import CDs--how do they fare? Lastly, I would like to give a big thumbs-up to Hardfloor's latest, "Respect". Fabulous hyper-rhythmic hard techno. Cost me a pretty penny but more than worth it. I am also playing Laurent Garnier's "Shot in the Dark" a lot these days. It's really excellent--much better than anything else I've heard by him, and certainly better than most of the hard-Detroit sounds I've heard recently (Carl Craig etc.) On Last: Spicelab "A Day on our Planet" (Does techno get *any* better than this?!) Leo Anibaldi? Cool shit in my opinion, very evil dark sounding techno without being too hard (hard for the sake of hard i.e. Gabber, Mokum records etc)...ExperMENTAL with an emphasis on mental.......He has at leasts two full length l.p.s "Muta" and "Canibald" on ACV italy as well as at least 5 different 12"s..........Speaking of Italian Experimental techno has anyone heard of Lory D and the sounds never seen records....these are similar to Leo Anibaldi stuff (deep, mental, sometimes very harsh and industrial sounding, other times very spacy, always very underground)................ Well, me too. And someone made some derogatory comments about "Changes of Live" I thought that was a great track! Cheesy but just so in your face I had to love it. WF2 and 3 took a bit longer to impress me, but there are some real stormers on both of these, as well as some really inventive ideas.

I'd go for Leo any day. I have about 4 or 5 12"s and double-packs from him. Always manages to get some serious dark moods in there somewhere. Often a hard bashing beat is accompanied by strange dronings and quiet horror-movie type background effects, with very spookey results. The "Muta" double pack has some ambient tracks on it which take these ideas away from the dancefloor. That said, the hard dance stuff is worth sitting down to listen to, just to get that atmosphere properly! Robert Armani is a bit more basic, but nonetheless extremely effective. Simple nagging riffs tied to stomping hard house rhythms for dancefloor mayhem. A helluva lot easier to mix than Mills' stuff, it must be said! There is a great ACV compilation available at present with tracks from both of these 2, plus Dave Clarke and a whole bunch of others. Can't remember the title, but its double vinyl or a mixed CD. Most of it is full-on in-yer face material, but some of it is pretty laid back too.
