What a month March has been! KIRKWOOD BALLERS CLUB blew the f*ck up and I got locked up in Dekalb County jail for a brief stint. I thought I was leaving the house for a minute to get some cream for my coffee, sugar and cigarettes and the next thing I know I?m on my way to jail again. I didn?t get back to my home until 36 hours later and just in time to go to work at 8:30am. Funny thing is that the cream was still good even though it was left in the vehicle I was driving illegally for the duration of my unexpected visit. Needless to say my coffee was way cold when I returned. One of the many highlights from being up in that trailer, as there were many, was meeting Bobby Brown. He served me up four slices of white bread and some bologna in a plastic baggie. He?s a trustee over there, which basically means he gets to wear a blue uniform and wander the premises unsupervised. I wore the bright orange get up and was confined in a big fish tank situated next to the trans-gendered inmates who actually looked pretty good BTW. I couldn?t resist so I hollered, ?sup shawty!? through the glass. Another surreal encounter was getting to speak with former Dekalb County Sheriff Sydney Dorsey?s daughter who still works at the jail even though her father ordered Sheriff Elect Derwin Brown to be gunned down in his driveway. Speaking of the Dirty ATL, have you seen the walls lately? They?re littered with flyers everywhere you look. Atlanta will surely burn again. I?ll see some of you tonight at KBC. Once again, peep this link for more interactive info. http://www.fifthplanetpress.com/tightbros.html The audio from KBC on 3.15 is up and ready for you to listen. tight bros network atlanta 2004 KIRKWOOD BALLERS CLUB every Monday at Lenny's! 8:00pm till 1:00am admission is free Hosted by: Patrick Foley, Randy Castello, Bradford James Cox, Alex Lambert KIRKWOOD BALLERS CLUB'S mission is to moderate weekly free-form musical exchanges, ideas and performance art between evolving cast of experimental minded Atlanta area musicians and performance artists in an effort to encourage creative live performance and foster greater artistic community. LOCATION: Lenny's Bar, 307 Memorial Drive. Atlanta, Georgia 30307, 404-577-7721. April 2004 tuesday 6 - drunken unicorn (mjq) The One AM Radio The Flakes Blue Hour all ages 10:00pm $5 presented in association with Stickfigure Distro The fall always brings me down. Over the last couple of days my life has been weird. On Wednesday I had a kid in a band called the Flakes stand up on stage in front of 150 people and tell everyone that I was in a band called Bully and that Greg Nicoll liked me and that we sucked and you shouldn't come see us. He called me a "dickhead" repeatedly and then proceeded to tell off everyone at The Star Bar. I let him keep going because sometimes it's better to let a flame burn out as opposed to squelching it. I never realized that I was in a position (professionally) to be poked at. I still don't think I am. He was a kid with a chemical imbalance that has been pissing off every booking agent, soundman and bartender in town by being an asshole. Kid, I admire the punk spirit, I even embrace it more than anyone in my peer group, but if you want to change the world (or get laid, they walk hand in hand) you have to realize who your audience is and appeal to the lowest common denominator. It is easy to piss people off. It's a lot harder to get them to embrace you. -sound man at Star Bar tuesday 6- eyedrum Andreas Tilliander Normal Music Mr. Mips all ages 8:00pm $8 To be a good poet, the first thing you should do is to stop sleeping at night. And the same should apply for music, when the music is of the kind Andreas Tilliander makes: poetic in the sense that every sound, every part, is there for a reason. Andreas Tilliander's name has, in the last two years, gone from complete oblivion to become almost synonymous with the so-called 'clicks & cuts' movement that has blossomed in the last few years. The attention came with the album 'ljud' on the esteemed Mille Plateaux record label, which gained reputation far beyond the narrowest electronic music circles. The interest for his music has never been greater and Atlanta is in for a special evening. wednesday 7- eyedrum Tracy + the Plastics King Cobra all ages 9:00pm $7 Tracy and the Plastics is a low-fi, art punk band from Washington, consisting of Tracy, Nikki, and Cola. All three are alter egos of Wynne Greenwood, who assumes the role of bandleader Tracy, with Nikki and Cola present only as video projections. The electronic keyboard and drum-machine music is complemented by the off-beat interactions between Tracy and her virtual band members. She is also a featured artist in the 2004 Whitney Biennial Exhibition. saturday 10- eyedrum Vastopol Rat Threads Mr. Mips Tom Delaney(solo acoustic set) all ages 9:00pm $5 Vastopol (Brian Montero on lap steel/laptop, Alex Lambert on drums)- with video by Doug Rednour. Prepare to be mesmerized when the notes fill the room. Rat Threads - Randy Castello (guitar, vox), Bradford "no one tells me when to play" Cox (guitar, vox), and Alex Lambert (drums) play to backdrop video collaboration by Sophia Coppola and Ted Turner specifically created for this Rat Threads appearance. Sophia and Ted will field questions from audience, but not at the same time. Bradford "no one tells me when to play" Cox will moderate questions between artist, press and audience. Mr Mips (aka James Parker on electronics) - with video by James Parker on " "how to" squash people in Atlanta with conflicting agendas other than your own. Hands will be broken, so if you got beef with James, you may want to sit this one out. He's a bitter motherfucker. Tom Delaney- solo acoustic set from Tom Delaney of Tragic Plastic will play guitar, dance and sing feverishly with a interpretive dance routine by the tight ho?s network division. For all you PC motherfuckers, ho is slang for beautiful woman. Now you know. tuesday 13- echo lounge Savath & Savalas Juana Molina Kopernik Nobody 18 and up 9:00pm $12 Following an extremely successful three years as Prefuse 73, Atlanta?s wayward son, Scott Herren, returns to the Echo Lounge with his more laidback Savath & Savalas project. Continuing his journey through beautiful melodic territories started over four years ago when the project began. Loosely based around Herren?s own search for his cultural roots in Barcelona and collaboration with unknown Catalan singer/songwriter Eva Puyuelo Muns, it evokes the weird colours of Kevin Shields and Jack Nietzsche, while simultaneously existing as a Spanish folk album. Enveloped by an amazing ensemble of musicians featuring Lori Scacco (east devs), Jon Philpot(bear in heaven, east devs) and Josh Abrams(Town and Country) wednesday 14- echo lounge Liars Young People Get Hustle 18 and up 9:00pm $12 If Performance are the sound of someone storming drunk into a discotheque and showing off, then Liars are the sound of someone drinking alone in their bedroom, frowningly arseing around with a malfunctioning PC, WISHING they were showing off in a discotheque. You can?t dance to this, you can?t shag to this, you CERTAINLY can?t relax to this, but by God, it?s fantastic ? a gut-churning bass riff that sounds like the dissatisfied grumbling of some giant malevolent grandpa with no basic vocabulary, and a shrill vocal pitched somewhere between ?am currently being force-buggered? and ?am still being force-buggered, but this time by a rhino? in its levels of pained hysteria. monday 19- drunken unicorn (mjq) Deerhoof Gong fodder Deerhunter all ages 9:00pm $7 Every band, no matter how bad, is a kind of tiny miracle. Those that do their own songs - especially collectively written ones - seem even more miraculous. At what point do they decide that their music is "ready for the world"? When is a song "done"?? Bands like The Magic Band, The Shaggs, The Fall, Sonic Youth, Polar Goldie Cats, and The Minutemen are among those who seem to possess this ineffable chemistry. Add to that list Deerhoof, and while you're at it, put them way up there, because that's where they belong. -Nels Cline thursday 22- drunken unicorn (mjq) Four Tet SunBurned Hand of the Man all ages 10:00pm $8 Ecstatic jazz, folk music and hip-hop have been concerns of Kieran Hebden?s since he debuted as Four Tet back in 1998. His recent critically lauded third album, ?Rounds? on Domino records, creates a palette where an ethnic-electronic sound meets with hip-hop production techniques, and lush samples are arranged with neo-classical beauty. Over the last several months the Massachusetts-based Sunburned Hand of the Man has created quite a bit of a buzz for themselves in the underground free noise/psych/punk/folk/what have you set. They've moved from a collective who has won over fans from show to show with their own brand of twisted, free-flowing music to a prominent position within the cover story of August's issue of The Wire "New Weird America" cover story. Totally cool. saturday 24- echo lounge Squarepusher 18 and up 9:00pm $15 Like his Warp cohort, Aphex Twin, Tom Jenkinson - aka Squarepusher - illustrated himself as one of the beat-choppers supreme of UK electronica. The son of a jazz drummer, Tom Jenkinson releases jazz-tinged breakbeat material on several imprints including Warp records and Robert Cheatham's ED recordings imprint. He will fuck you up live if you show up and hopefully he'll be there too at the Echo Lounge. Seriously!! monday 26- echo lounge Blonde Redhead 18 and up 9:00pm $15 Kazu Makino is from Japan and Simone and Amedeo Pace (twin brothers) are from Italy. The band name, Blonde Redhead, comes from a song by the band DNA, a New York City based group which existed in the early '80's. A band they all love and more... Life and Music: Bounding them tightly together to the point of confusing them. This has been Blonde Redhead's way of life since first meeting. In a restaurant in New York city they came together by chance, and have been a band ever since. tuesday 27- echo lounge Peaches The Spooks 18 and up 9:00pm $12 Rock'n'roll how it should be performed live- No one does it as well as Peaches can. Her vagina is so big it?s omni present. It?s everywhere. I?m up in it right now and so are you whether you know it or not. If you?ve never seen Peaches live, then keep your opinions away from me because her pussy is getting so loud that I?m unable to hear you. The unholy music of Peaches will come to Atlanta on this day and there will be an after party on this night. Bet. The Spooks feature members of Deer Hunter and the Black Lips. As you can imagine, debauchery will ensue. I hear they?re planning on going big for this show. The better go ANIGAV GIB type big for this show. May 2004 wednesday 19- echo lounge eX-girl 18 and up 9:00pm $10 eX-Girl are a beautiful example of information overload. Jagged 3 part vocal harmonies, adventurous arrangements, and songs that hook you like the sucker that you are. Take all of these treats, wrap it in an ultra-bright technicolor live show with surreal homemade costumes, and you've got the sensation of being strapped in on an out-of-control carnival ride that will leave you standing in line waiting for another turn. -MIKE PATTON June 2004 tuesday 15- echo lounge Acid Mothers Temple 18 and up 9:00pm $12 Collective led by Kawabata Makoto. There are currently around 30 members, famous and unknown, musicians, artist, dancers, farmers etc. In order to follow and document their multifarious activities, in 1998 the Acid Mothers Temple family record label was set up. The Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. group is just one part of collective's activities. This will be AMT's second appearance in the ATL July 2004 monday 5- drunken unicorn (mjq) Gravy Train!!!! all ages 9:00pm $7 Three girls giving. One man taking. All touching and rubbing themselves. Violently striking pelvii. Slapping asses. Humping walls. Spreading thighs. Bloodying bare feet on broken beers. Stripping short-shorts down to leotard skivvies. Harnessing air dildoes and burying them deep in both eager and sheepish boy butts alike. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance Tax Center - File online.
