I can't believe nobody mentioned Ardisson on Seed. I think it's prolly the
closest to the idm/2-step idea. Thumbs up on the Tempa and Tube Jerk stuff,
too. I hearby throw the term "breakstep" onto the subgenre pyre. I truly
wish I could find some more "grime" records in the states, tho... Any brave
souls out there feel like trying to import some?
oh yeah, and one of my favorite retail stories of late: multiple, separate
50+ yr.old guys, haven't heard electronic since Tangerine Dream (didn't like
it), looking for something fresh. I ask them what they're into, they say
they want something crazy, they love free jazz, so I give them Venetian
Snares "Higgins...". They listen for about 3 minutes with a gaping smile
and then buy it immediately, claiming they're gonna play it on their NPR
show or whatever - every single time, 100% hit rate. God, just wait till
they hear Otto Von... Love it or hate it, I have a distinct feeling
breakcore or whatever is going to be a big part of electronic music's
medium-term future...
