For So Cal, Eric Frans & I do one called the SCIDM page. We try and cover LA, OC, and San Diego. In a region this large with so many events going on it's very easy to miss something good. Trust me I don't find all the information on just a few sites, I go to many sites and grab flyers when I'm at record stores and hear about them word of mouth. And face it there are a lot of promoters that don't do a good job getting the word out. So music lists are the best place to spread the word. When I see posts for events in NYC or elsewhere I don't automatically hit delete. That post might be about an artist I like, and it might lead me to search to see if they are playing other cities near me. I'm sure there are people that do that when I post about So Cal events. Hell, I drove 15 hours to see Dead Can Dance back in 93 or 94 (I can't remember). I was stunned when i saw Aphex Twin was playing a few days later. If it wasn't for ripping the poster off the wall and calling the hotline I never would have known Aphex Twin would be playing in a city near me a week later. In fact, hardly anyone knew Aphex Twin/Orbital/Vapourspace were playing in Arizona, because that event was SO POORLY promoted. It was a fluke that I found out and I told all of my friends. The LA show didn't even happen, I don't know what the circumstances were whether it was promotion or venue problems. A lot of artists have to tour to make a living, because record sales aren't always enough. So I don't see anything wrong with helping to get the word out, and believe me underground electronic shows need help getting the word out. I've been to many shows with really great artists performing and a low turnout. < no offense to those that post dates but i presume if we need to know about a particular show we can look it up. > No offense, but people take different things from the list. For some it might be IDM 101, for others it might be about trading or buy/sell music, shows, and numerous other things. Some people might just want to chat about gear and music production, deejaying, etc. I'm sure there are very few people that find every single topic interesting. < I'd rather read actual discussion about music rather than when so-and-so is playing. > Tell me when you find the "perfect list" that only discusses music that you are interested in. I'm subscribed to three music lists and none of them come close to what I'm looking for, but I occasionally find some interesting posts here and there.
