Your latter statement is somewhat true, from a subjective point of view, but there is also truth into objectively quantifying some music as well. Autechre's Cichli and the ring of my cell phone both can be classified as music, but it's easily quantifiable from a quality standpoint. I think Cichli has more melodic, emotional and textural entertainment value than 95% of music out there, let alone a cell phone ring. Given this, you must understand that your critic wasn't wrong in pointing out some negative aspects of your music. Don't lump his supported opinions (by support, i mean he gave you specific examples, nearly in outline form!) into one statement, but instead take it as advice, and one's concern for another's music. Granted, I haven't heard a note of what you've written, nor do I care, but please don't close your mind to what other people may think. You and your friends, who are most likely in biased awe of your production, aren't the only audience in the world. And if you keep attacking everything anyone on this list says with slander, you'll get nothing but slander back. -Mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
