yes-exactly- the point is that it's a different time and place-it's a different sound. I personally think that shows sound better when they're coming straight off of someone's laptop- even when the soudns system is crappy. there are a million different factors that impact live performances. Downgraded, upgraded, it's just different. I issue of what is "pure" is really open- something can be a pure downgrade, or purely shitty, or purely crisp. A purely shitty sound can have millions of pure crisp sounds in it- personally I think IDM musicians need to work on their melodies. I love the complex beats, but not many melodies have progressed beyond the basic rave anthems...hah! -----Original Message----- From: booey chewy [mailto:booeyschewy@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, April 09, 2001 12:53 PM To: activity@activaire.com; Andrei Cc: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: [idm] live is always great Plus some of the most IDM of the IDM albums are all based on this... Have you ever heard of lofi sampling??? You take a clean sound and downgrade it into a lower format. That is how nearly 90% of mid-era idm drums are made (autechre, aphex, funkstorung, squarepusher and so on) todd --- "activity@activaire" <activity@activaire.com> wrote:
