Hi Hans and others who are interested in this subjects, who cares about mainstream etc. Actually I did a few years ago but it wasn't worth getting upset about (just don't buy that crap and avoid those parties). As long as you believe in your music and as long as you are active in making and promoting it (organising parties etc.), it will not die. And the difference to your examples of other music styles is, that today many different styles and cultures exist simultaneously and some of the old ones like punk came back and found their place in the diversive world of music cultures. Regarding IDM and the music it stands for, I am not worried at all. IDM music was never really commercial mainstream music (with a few exceptions) and therefore it won't be affected by mainstream trends that much. The sub-culture "techno" has grown up, many producers are now between 30 and 40. So you might see it "die off" somewhat as a youth culture for a while, until the next generation of teenagers who is looking for something "different". Not being a trend any more also has the advantage of opening new creative spaces.
