Maybe I'm a bit ahead of the curve here, but here's my best of 2003 in no particular order: Giorgio Marauder- To Hell With Everyone 7" (Mirex)- some genre-fucking breakcore (I guess) stuff with 60s spy-film-soundtrack strings and Cold War-sounding vocal samples but the best sample has gotta be the 2 seconds of some lounge singer guy singing that old Motorhead chestnut "Ace Of Spades" !!! Modeselektor- Ganes De Frau Vol. 1 12" (Bpitchcontrol)- Kompakt calls them "weirdo techno" or something, which I can kinda understand; pounding minimalism with Burt Bacharach samples and soccer play-by-play in German (oh, and an Ellen Allien remix)- pretty much glued to my turntable for a couple weeks there Gwem and the Gwemettes- Suck My Dick, Lick My Arse 7" (Shitkatapult) and Cold War Angst EP (Preromanbritain)- the 7" if only for the amazing electropunk "Fuck You Managment Wanker," although I like that Miss Kitten cover on the flip (and the EP) a lot better than the original; the EP's got some nice acidy action and his cover of that Black Sabbath song "Paranoid" is just flat out hilarious Joachim Spieth- both 12" on Kompakt (Schlag Auf Schlag and Ein Kein Ende) North Mancs Beds- Bolton 8 EP (NMB)- um, some more of that Manchester IDM/ Skam sound I love so much; and an African choir to start things off right AFX- Smojface EP (Men)- well what can I say really? I really really like the Bug already and this remix has gotta be the hardest (and fastest) breakbeat monster I've EVER heard The Bug- Pressure CD and Gun Disease 12" (Tigerbeat/ Rephlex)- well obviously... LFO- Sheath LP (Warp) Heib- all three 12" on Auftrieb (Cargo, Tage Danach and Akrobat) Hans Joachim Irmler- Lifelike LP (Staubgold) King Tubby- Roots Of Dub & Dub From the Roots LP (Moll-Selekta) T. Raumschmiere- everything but that new Radio Blackout record (Kompakt/ Hefty/ Sender/ Shitkatapult etc.) Happy Christmas, Merry New Year and cheers to you all Wah Wah Rabbits _________________________________________________________________ Worried about inbox overload?
