Whenever u play a song from the internet winamp doesnt really save the file. It just streams it through its mp3 decoder to some place in your ram area and then calls outport functions with the address of your soundcard dma loaded into one of the registers along with the location of where it put the decoder output. You could run a debugger to find out exactly where the bits are going if you really want to know, but i would say you probably just want to save the mp3 u just listened to. In that case just right click on the link and click save as and then you can choose where to store the file without going through winamp. -----Original Message----- From: Omar Hackett [mailto:Oways@msn.com] Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2001 11:40 PM To: Idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] Winamp Just got the Winamp the other day Where the heck does the Winamp player download the files at(where are they stored)? Use StreamRipper or Total Recorder. Do a search on google for either and you should get the results you seek. Personally I use Total Recorder. Over 'n out. Hi all, My flatmate and I have decided to MP3 all of our IDM CD's (about 350 CD's, this is going to take a while) to protect against annoyances such as scratches and skips that make CDs unplayable, I want to forever remove the irritation of finding that one of your favourite CD's has a skip just in the middle of the best track. We are using the Lame encoder on alt preset standard, which is slightly below perfect cd quality, but good enough for me. Consequently we have a LOT of mp3s and most programs (read: winamp) don't like to handle this much data, are there any MP3 players that have better support for much larger collections of music? cheers georgewilliamson --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hi, you could try a nice little plugin for Winamp called WinCue.. Really not much to say other then that its GREAT. It has a couple of nice extra features too if you happen to own a MiniDisc. http://www.wincue.org --Robert --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
