i agree with this.
really dislike dali, as a person and as an artist.
of the surrealist painters (the genre is pretty
cheesed out IMO), magritte is probably the best.
but i'm not sure what makes surrealism "idm" anyway.
i guess you could argue that dali is kind of like
future sound of london... lots of gratuitous special
effects and "wierd objects" grouped together.
if you want to start with the early techno or minimal
and highly "electronic" sounds, i'd have to go with
minimalism. like, donald judd, dan flavin, frank
stella, ellsworth kelly, and james turrel... are
techno.
warhol is aphex: a media manipulator and a godfather
to the contemporary scene.
mies is autechre: intentionally mechanical and
imitated by everyone.
