Thank you whoever put up that post on Uk-dance about FSOL.. I've had it up to here with unchallenging music that works better as background music for lucasfilms than for an urban lifestyle.. remember that phrase "Hard music for a hard city"? This is NOT a call to Gabber or sum such, but to that driving force that propels the likes of Juan Atkin's "interference" or Richard James's "Isoprophlex".. I'm happy to see that the Ambient list is active, hoping that posts about "Film" music will be rerouted.. Has anybody heard the new +8 release? I believe it's called "Fascinating Rhythm" or sum such.. Rich tells me it's a new Dutch guy they picked up.. Any reviews on this newie? BTW, for all you IDM purists out there, I just listened to the Bedouin Ascent EP again of my radio show today, and would have to say that it's one of the best Rising High releases yet.. Almost as good as the "Toy Town Remixes" from back in the day.. (giggle).. Am I the only one who misses rave lines? Tell me I'm not losing it! "Something unreal!!!" P.S. Morgan Geist.. The address list is on my roommates computer.. I'll send it as soon as I can.. (That's ex-roommate).. Jeamie Hajj

I picked it up Friday [along with a huge stack of really good stuff -- formal reviews to come: the new Jochem Paap and Basic Channel releases are godly...] Um, for an artist billing himself as "Fascinating Rhythm" I found the percussion tracks pretty ordinary -- loopy tweaky midtempo stuff, but nothing I hadn't really heard before. Not bad, but I was slightly disappointed. I like 2 out of the 4 tracks -- I'd probably give it a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 if I believed in rating things numerically. :) Call me nuts, but the stuff on the Probe sublabel has been a bit more interesting than the things on +8 proper lately. ----------------------------------------------------------------- dave walker, detroit art services marmoset@msen.com "she got soul but I don't know" Dave Walker

The "Film" music thread began by my wondering aloud if RELOAD had ever done it/considered it. And I was NOT thinking of their more "ambient" compositions when I said it. "Mosh" over "Aliens", anyone? ;) for me, the highlight of the thread has been finding out that RDJ is interested in soundtrack work. Again, not SAWII, but pieces like the one you mentioned in YOUR post. And of course, there's the tidbit about ORBITAL.. The point is, none of these artists deserve to be "rerouted" to the Ambient list. Like RDJ said (as quoted on this list), people are TIRED of Tangerine Dreamy soundtracks. That's exactly what this thread's been about, is wishing for more meaty soundtracks. Dig, Haaj? Cheers, Brad.
