Is it just me or is U-ziq giving us the run around concerning their gear? That sliding bell noise they always use sounds a hell of a lot like the vobraphone preset on my cz-101 with a good chunk of portamento.. VHS editing my arse! For all you fellas out there, the sexy and provacative Suzanne H. is back online!

OK, so why does the "Tango n' Vectif" CD say All tracks composed by Michael Paradinas and Francis Naughton. Performed by Cubeat and Atari 1040 ST. Ingredients: Yamaha DX11, Roland D50, ALesis HR16, Fostex 280 4-track recorder, ART Multiverb LTX, Boss delay pedal, Sony Betamax VCR. So who's Francis Naughton, then? - Greg

Francis Naughton played an extremely minor part in Tango N' Vectif. If you check the credits for the R&S EP, It says "All tracks written and produced by M. Paradinas." Ive also had the good fortune to see a tape of Mu-Ziq playing live and Michael Paradinas is the sole performer. I dont think you'll be hearing anymore of Francis... :: Alan M. Mike Paradinas is the main force behind u-ziq... however Francis Naughton has helped out on a few tracks... and still sometimes gives mike a hand during PA's. The guitar laden track before the 'Mum's been to Iceland' extravaganza on Bluff Limbo was performed by Mister Naugton, for instance. B

I've been listening to mu-ziq nonstop since getting the CD last week. Being fairly familiar w/ the instruments involved (too familiar w/ the damned HR16!), I'd have to say that it IS within the realm of possibility that that is his actual gear list. I hear LOTS of weird feedback & distortion techniques all over the place. The drum sound really fucks w/ me - I keep thinking they yanked out the HR16 ROM & replaced it w/ an EPROM (I know it can be done - I've done it). It's structured like it was definitately done on a 4-track. mu-ziq wins the Studio 808 awards for "Best Use of Distortion in a Starring Role" and "Best Makeup" for the Digital in Analogue Drag costume. I'm not sure that I like tango 'n vectif, but I know I really love it. It's really fucked up my current preconceptions about music. PEACE MR-808 My mantra: 8080808! New improved low-calorie sig! I hear LOTS of weird feedback & as far as I know... mike d's equipment is virtually as stated on the tango lp... ie roland nicey keyboard plus a casio fz-1 plus a drum machine... hr16 type thingly... plus his usual mix with the panometric distorto sweep thingy... ie the cheesy strings and tinny vibras combined with the sweeping drum things... plus he has sampled the odd bit here and there... mostly small breaks... you'll hear it. funster... but not progressing from his style - as with anyone's style! Keep it up maybe! CJ effs did a smart uziq piece... I don't think mr uziq has heard it though! Benjamin.

That's odd. The CD list is as follows:

No mention of FZ-1, and if he's using samples, then it must be mostly samples of his own gear. I thought I heard a sample from ON on one track, though, and how could he have done the ON remix w/o a sampler??? plus his usual mix with the panometric distorto sweep thingy... Please tell us more!

No, I don't. Can you give us examples? Does this stuff belong in idm??? PEACE MR-808 My mantra: 8080808! New improved low-calorie sig! Simple - using the original multitrack tape. They are on the same label, no? - respect to all, Ken ken@snowcrest.net (primary address) (if no answer, try ken.stuart@tigerteam.org )
