Cosmic Baby told me he plans to meet Vangelis and do a reworking of the Bladerunner soundtrack... That reminds me -- is any of Killing Joke's other stuff as good as "Pandemonium in Dub"? I remember an IDM-er rated it as the most desirable of 3 recent releases including plain-ol' "Pandemonium" and maybe (?) "Millennium". I also remember that Metallica covered one of their older songs, so I'll make sure to stick with newer material :) -- Chris

That was me. None of the other stuff is IDM-oriented. Stick with "... In Dub" if that's what you're interested in. Reports I've seen in other areas of Cyberspace seem to indicate that the album is pretty much "traditional" Killing Joke territory; i.e., the Youth mixes that bring in the Dub/Techno elements are all confined to the 12"/CDS singles. *Sigh*

Well, that more-or-less takes it outside the realm of IDM as we now define the term, but as far as I'm concerned every KJ album save for "Brighter Than A Thousand Suns" and "Outside The Gate" is absolutely essential. Since Tamara's response above was in response to Ian's metaphysical question

The Sex Pistols reference is nearly close to home, because John Lydon's best pal during the Pistols era was Jah Wobble, later in PiL of course. And the track that most blew my socks off last weekend at Joe Rice's excellent forest rave here in L.A. - courtesy of Tamara (thanks Tam! (-: ) - was the Kris Needs 15 minute B-side remix of one of Wobble's most recent singles (what was that, Tam - "Getting Closer to God" or somesuch ... ?). A tour-de-force that spans Meat Beat-esque hardcore low-end funky rhythms all the way to a brain-bleeding Acid workout (it goes so far across the spectrum that everyone was convinced she'd played 2 different tracks!), it had plenty of I and more than enough D to suit me. Which leads me to my last comment; if you think the "D" has died in "IDM", maybe it's time to expand your definition of "IDM". "People who have appeared on AI 1 or AI 2, and any inbred bastard offspring thereof" is getting to be a wee bit limiting if you ask me ... - Greg

It's the Secret Knowledge to Hell and Back Mix of Becoming More Like God on Island UK. Nothing like the original if you know it. Fucking incredible track! Great for messing up peoples minds, altered or sober. :) Hug Your Waistline to the Bassline............................................
