Well, Wax Trax finally got around to releasing AI2 for us stateside folks. I found a copy used already, so I thought I'd let y'all know what we got here. The version I have is single-CD, ten songs, 75 minutes. It's got the same cover art as the Warp release. I have heard that there is a limited edition 2-CD version with some of the Warp bonus tracks, but I don't know about it. The single-CD is missing the Richard James track, as well as any bonus tracks. It's missing something else, though, but I can't remember what. Here's a track listing: 1 8:35 Mark Franklin - Release To The System 2 6:59 Higher Intelligence Agency - Selenite 3 9:29 Link - Arcadian 4 6:59 B12 - Scriptures 5 7:33 Autechre - Chatter 6 6:06 Speedy J - Symmetry 7 8:08 Beaumont Hannant - Utuba 8 6:43 Richard H. Kirk - Reality Net 9 7:31 Balil - Parasight 10 7:18 Seefeel - Spangle The music's been pretty well discussed, so i'll just say that it's all pretty low on the dance scale, none of it is as mindblowingly innovative as some of the AI1 comp, and that Speedy J, Hannant, and HIA have especially nice tracks. Sum up, this version is a fair buy, if you don't mind losing tracks. I can see why WaxTrax did this - trying to sell a double cd pack with 12 songs might be hard. If anybody does get the limited edition, I'd like to hear what's on it. Jesse --- "If you ain't a beat junkie then you ain't said sh*t" -- The Pharcyde Jesse Stricker jstrick@gladstone.uoregon.edu

Finding a used copy of something doesn't mean it's been released yet. I can't count the number of times I've seen stacks of "used" promo copies of releases as much as a few weeks before their street dates. Has anyone seen a legit copy of AI2 on Tee Vee Toons for sale in a store? C. -- cspot@netcom.com (Chris.Hilker)........a good-foot dance in a dusted trance

Good point, and I just noticed that it is a promo. However, the official release date is Tuesday, so just don't read this until then :) Jesse

I think I bought the state side version of the two cd set at newbury comics the other day. It cost about $20 (2cd) and had lots of tracks (i don't have it with me) including the scanner bonus track and My Teapot. I believe it is the same track listing as the UK limited edition version. It definately said wax trax! on it somewhere, but I thought it was a uk copy that slipped through the cracks as I don't think that Newbury would be selling off their promors and I didn't think that it was out in the US yet, but I guess I was wrong... :) [fletcher] - [my teapot isn't so very strange, just a little cracked]

OK, I guess I'm the only one then. I bought it Friday at Newbury Comics in Harvard Square. (Admittedly, it wasn't on the racks yet; they had just gotten a shipment of stuff and it was in the stack of stuff they had just put price tags on and I asked if I could buy it. I have no idea if it went into the racks later that night or if they're waiting until Tuesday.) The US Warp/WaxTrax!/TVT ltd. ed. 2CD issue; its catalong number is TVT 7223-2. It contains: CD 1: (45:55) 1. Mark Franklin - Release To The System 2. The Higher Intelligence Agency - Selinite 3. Link - Arcadian 4. B12 - Scriptures 5. Autechre - Chatter 6. Speedy J - Symmetry CD 2: (62:07) 1. Beaumont Hannant - Utuba 2. Richard H Kirk - Reality Net 3. Balil - Parasight 4. Seefeel - Spangle 5. Darrel Fitton - Blipsalt 6. Polygon Window - My Teapot 7. Kenny Larkin - Maritime Also, there is over 5 minutes of silence after the Larkin track, after which there is an unlisted 7-minute track by Scanner (they are not listed anywhere except on the disc itself), all contained on track 7. The 62:07 includes this extra 12 minutes; the sticker on the package indicated that the total time of both discs was 95:25, thus "hiding" the track further. As for what's on it, it's not mindblowing, but very entertaining. I already had "Parasight" and "Spangle," but they're two pretty decent tracks anyways. I own the _One_AD_ comp and neither of the HIA tracks on it really struck me as being fantastic, but their contribution here is my favorite. I also like the B12, Kirk, Fitton and Larkin tracks quite a bit. Autechre's track is a little too average, not quite as good as their other stuff. As for the Polygon Window track, well, it's, uh, interesting. Can't really dance to it, though. A whole album of that could be *really* cool or *really* annoying, depending on what mood you were in. The Hannant track is good, but he's done better stuff. The Mark Franklin track is remixed by Beaumont Hannant and the Link track is remixed by Global Communication (!). - Adam J Weitzman INDIVIDUAL, Inc. weitzman@individual.com

I noticed that the second Darrel Fitton track "Metalurg" that's on the bonus 12" on Warp is not on the limited edition TVT CD release. ___________________________________________________________________________ Paul Rafanello Custom Forum #137: ambience@delphi.com A.U.D.A.C.I.T.Y. ___________________________________________________________________________
