bpms... Who needs 'em? If you don't know your music well enough by ear to tell which songs are faster than others and what the approximate speed of a song is by hearing it, then you don't know your music well enough to spin it... For the record, I don't bpm my stuff either. Sounds great Teep, I'll let you know as soon as I receive it.

So Lukey, I take it from these comments that you weren't "qualified" to spin when you kept a laptop and a BPM program by the turntables? You were also quite excited to show me your newly crafted BPM program at one time. What a load of pretentious shit. Some of the best DJs I've seen BPM their stuff. It isn't a crutch it is a tool.

Pete, the point I was trying to make is that basically, if I haven't practiced with my music enough to know which songs are too fast or too slow to mix together, then my set will sound like shit anyways because I haven't practiced enough to even know which songs will sound right when mixed together. I wrote that bpm program when I first started spinning just to see how much it would help me. After using it a couple of days I found out that it really didn't mean that much, and I haven't bpm'd anything since. Sure, some DJs may find that bpming music helps them, but I don't. You argue that some of the best DJs bpm their music, but I know for a fact that some of the best DJs also don't bpm their music. Perhaps it depends on the musical background you come from. I've been into performing live musically (not djing) for about 12 years now, and throughout most of that time I've been a jazz musician. Jazz requires an inate internal sense of time, and because of that background I've been very grateful. It's helped my djing out tremendously, and if you play me a song, I could probably tell you what the bpm is within +/- 2 bpm. I don't see why you have to be so negative all the time. As far as I know, I've never provoked you or personally done anything that would cause you to flame me the way you have several times. When you "quit" djing a while ago, you said it was because you were tired of all the negativity in the scene. Maybe you better look in the mirror for a while, because I've always treated you with at least as much respect as a fellow human being and you've done nothing but shit on me in almost every post you've written to me. Peace, Luke
