Since it has come up several times, what are people's opinions about Silence 2? I really enjoyed Silence, notably Omid/Hope. Track 2 didn't do much for me, but the others were decent. Has a review been posted and I missed it? Ryan ======================================================== | 0 0 | Ryan McCormack | 0-0-0 | ryan@isis.berkeley.edu | 0 0 | "I am not a number. I don't think there have been any reviews as Silence 2 has been difficult to find. The original release came out around this time last year on FAX and the release was pretty limited. There were two tracks on one 12" and a full length CD. I couldn't find it anywhere and I tried ordering it from a number of places. One day I found the 12" and I didn't like it very much. I heard "Sweet Angels" with the samples of little German children speaking throughout and didn't like it. I forgot what the track on the other side was but I was disappointed. I was expecting more of the ethnic sound found on the first Silence. I think Rising High was supposed to reissue it but because of problems, a new sister label called "World Ambient" was formed. The first release was "The Artist's Cut of Definitive Ambient Compilation 2" and Silence 2 came next. I haven't seen either of these yet. ___ / / / / / / _ __/ (_/__/ / (__ (__ ___/

I found a copy at Mod Lang in Berkeley (for all the bay folks). I think I mentioned here before that I didn't like Silence 2 much at all. It doesn't have any sort of an edge to it and seems like an extended drone.

The children are speaking Persian and not German. This comes from Atmo's Persian background. On Silence 1 there is also some Persian music sampled on the tracks Santur and Omid.

I don't think World Ambient lable is from Rising High, I think it's another Namlook thing. I say this since the "Artist's Cut..." release was put out by Namlook as a kind of protest to Rising High putting out "Defenitive Ambient Collection 2" without his involvement or some other disagreement. I think there was a law suit of some sort between Namlook and Rising High. Later, Mohsen

An informed souce told me back in March that Namlook/FAX and Rising High were having some sort of squabble over something, and I think it was to the licensing rights of either the _Silence_ or _Dreamfish_ collaborations. I can't remember which exactly, but they both involve Namlook/FAX and Rising High. Maybe that's why _Dreamfish_ was crossed out in that Instinct catalog someone mentioned a month or so ago. Hmmm...
