It comes in a nice blue/green box with what appears to be a colourised bacteria culture on the front and contains three 10-inch records, each with 2 mixes of the track Basscadet, making a very nice set and a great trainspotters collection piece. The first mix is considerably slower than the original, and as with all the remixes, it takes it in a new and very different direction. Beaumont Hannant does some nice work with the second mix, opening with a tubular bell sound and building it up into a rhythm before adding drums and creating a very moody trance-inducing piece with nice ambient segments. The second 10" is probably my favourite of the three, the first track being the Seefeel mix - a heavy, darker ambient track with long sustained noises and a repeated snare hit that echoes through the void created. The flip side continues the feeling of darkness with deep sustained tones and a filtered echoing beat. The third and final 10" again takes Basscadet in a new direction and ends with another nice mix by Beaumont Hannant. All together a nice set of remixes and a nice collectors item, music at a considerably slower pace than most of what we hear now. ::::Locust - Skysplit EP ::R&S Records (RS93031) :Lust :Wilheim Klopper Dance :Tamed :Pithano ::This was recommended to me by a friend who said that R&S were promoting Locust by comparing him to the Aphex Twin. Not quite. The first track is a heavy brooding track, grinding along at 121bpm, with a few strange vocal samples thrown in for good measure. The second track immediately appears faster and a lot lighter than the previous and consists of a smooth riding beat with submarine-like ping sounds echoing in the back ground creating a nice spacious sound.. The reverse side continues the Locust sound with another smooth track and bizarre vocal samples, backed by bursts of electronic droning. The last track, Pithano, has a similar smooth beat and is added to to by a short repeated 5-note sequence thats sounds reminicsent of those old horror movie effects. Not sure why I like this record really, but I do. Its certainly not afx, and its far from outstanding, but it does have a different sound that somehow appeals to me. Give it a listen first. _______ (__,-, \ / /\ \ f l u i d <finger me for PGP key> /,_) \ \ flu'id (floo'-) (/ \\ brit@chopin.udel.edu :65 FD F9 9F F2 23 F8 CF: \) fluid@freezer.cns.udel.edu :80 9C 11 AA 9F 92 0D 27:
