I`m an ambient DJ and the vast majority of my stuff is on vinyl! Just wanted to set the record straight, do _not_ want another "vinyl vs CD" argument... <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< I'm an ambient DJ also, and even though I do have a small amount of ambient stuff on vinyl, the vast majority is CD. Sure, you might not notice the snap crackle pop that much, or it might add to the mix, but I use live sampling keyboards and effects processors in my ambient stuff. If I need to add a crackle to the mix, I'll add one in 44.1khz stereo digital quality with 64x oversampling (that's the sound quality output I get from the Ensoniq ASR-10). Other than that, I'd prefer to have as little distortion as possible. Some ambient stuff is recorded at a VERY low volume level, and you might have to turn the line level on your mixer to full volume in order to hear the music. At that kind of sensitivity, a snap or a pop from the needle could kill your sound system, as well as the ears of whoever's standing by the speakers... P.S. Sorry for the DJ related post, this would probably fit much better on bpm, but since this ambient trend is very popular here at the moment...
