its great to see a new thread coming up....STC(Jonah Sharp) <ican't say
enough about this guy- keep watching him, he's the next 'big one' imho. SF
is going to explode in the next 2 years...30 yr time span not bad!> has
relocated to SF, and has three releases out that I know of "Fluresence" EP,
Alien Dreamtime, & Alien Community(w/pete namlook)
the didj. has be left by the wayside for the other releases. Fluresence(if
you can still get it) is a beautiful ep replete w/answering machine msg's,
a bit o' 303(not over used), and a hologram centre sticker. Alien community
is an hour long epic, a must have....I don't really consider STC to be like
the other 'city of tribes' groups they're very earthy, and jonah's way out
in 'hyperspace'.
As far as steve roach goes, check out MJB' s ambient gopher, there's a full
review/discography/recommendation list in there...Check out 'Hearts of
Space'(not pete) in the same section. Roach is regular occurence on their
bi-weekly radio broadcast. They've been promoting
futuristic/archaic/minimalistic artists for years, and are broadcast thru
hundreds of US, and canadian cities- the list of cities is also in the
site( H.O.S. are from SF no less)... If this type of music is of interest,
check your local 'metaphysical' bookstore. They quite often have music as
well. In vancouver there's a great bookstore called Banyen books, and
they've opened up a sound store in conjunction w/ it...some of my best cd's
have come from there....cut thru the newage bs to find some brilliant
works. Obsteve roach, 'Dreamtime return', is a double cd o.o.b.e., truly
amazing(highly recommended), and Austrailia:sound of the earth-as has been
said before comes in heavy w/the didj +wafting wind, distant birds, and an
anicient cry(hahacheez). Dark, inner sanctum stuff, but that's what i
like. <Great for mixing under, goes really well w/ 'feed your head'>.
There's an ep out there called 'The Acid Didj', its got a red cross in the
centre(not sure of the label), this might be more along your lines
Don...i'll check on the artist.
obidm:
just got some 'new' records this week
*Infonet comp (seems good, very percussion orientated, will require
extended listening)
*Air Liquide (on *CD*)-'nephology'...very diff. from their first release.
The cd has a few extra tracks which warrant its purchase. Much more
ambient(in its true def.). i really like the application of the broken
female vocal nearing the end of the cd.
*Gilgamesh-'trescore'ep...on fragile records...(my own copy finally), one
of the best trance reqqids from last year(i believe it was out in
dec.)can't tell if that's metal loop under it...play this till death
*Cyrus-inversion...domestic US<basic channel> mellow trancer, w/ a flip
ambient...strange thing about this release is that to play the ambient
track you must place the needle on the inner groove so it can play
outwards.(that's right up there w/ the hologram stc, and plastikman's
sheet).
my friends picked up the new Robert Leiner 12' on apollo, and the album_
damn good imho
alllll for now
See everyone in SF next Sat Nite, We'll be there fri-mon...
Brendan mail me before you go %)
for the love of clouds....
